I wouldn't recommend Patsy's for what you need. The food is good, but the only locations I know of would be on 74th and Columbus, and somewhere in the East 60s. Both aren't exactly FAR from the theater district, but not exactly close either. Also, if you get there before 8:30 or so, it's very very loud, and there's always lots of kids which might not be good for your party.
If you want a good pizza places, or Italian in general with more upscale prices, you can try Fiorello's near Lincoln Center. Orso on restaurant row is always a good choice. There are also lots of other great restaurants around the Lincoln Center area.

Yes, it's Robert Emmett's!
It's pretty American, with an Italian (and Irish if I'm recalling correctly) twist. I had fries and mozzarella sticks one time... I didn't want a real meal. Their chicken dishes and salads are supposed to be very good as well.
Here's the menu, I highy reccomend this restaurant.

The Patsy's I was looking at was 56th bet. Bway and 8th...
And if this helps at all, my family loved Carmine's, but I wasn't a huge fan of it. I loved Becco and Baldoria, which I was disappointed to find was closed.

Oh, I hate the Hard Rock.
You wait a long time to get seated, and even longer to be served!
But, that's just me.

Posted: 3/29/09 at 9:59pmHonestly, they might like that. But I think I'd want to go a little more upscale than that. Especially since it's my grandpa's 70th birthday party. My picky family is going to have to upgrade a bit. Orso looks interesting...especially since I love Restaurant Row so much. Does anyone know anything about Barbetta?

Now this is a little off topic... but if it's a 70th Birthday... you might wanna see Hair instead of Next To Normal, I don't know many 70 year olds who like rock scores. I'm assuming you're on the younger side being it's your grandparent's and not parent's birthday but I would keep that in mind before getting N2N tickets.
Also, being that it's a 70th- Robert Emmet's. Most of the time it's pretty empty therefore quiet, and looks nice, and has good food.

I'm seriously considering Emmett's at this point.
And the 70-year-old is not seeing N2N...he would HATE it. But I am seeing it with my Grandma who loved Spring Awakening. I think she would really like the complexity and emotional impact of N2N. She adores shows with a poigniant message. However, now that I think of it, she only enjoys those shows if she is fully prepared for what's coming. So could someone either give me the plot spoilers here or message them to me?

Of course. My parents have been to the main one, and didn't love it. It's a great view though, I do know that!
At this point, Orso, Robert Emmett's and Maria Pia look great.

Musikman mentioned Fiorello's. I second that recommendation.
And there are many threads on here that might help you find out a little about next to normal; some threads have spoilers, some don't. Search around. And if you really need all the spoilers and can't find them, there are a lot of people you could PM (including myself) and ask for a synopsis.

Posted: 3/30/09 at 10:39amI second Chez Josephine. It is an experience. From the moment you are greeted by Jean Claude, you know you are in a special place. The food is delicious, the service is top notch and the cabaret singers (when they perform) are lovely. They have a website so you can check it out. It is a chic little bistro. A jewel box in the bustling theatre district.

I third Trattoria Trecolori. If I'm not mistaken they have an upstairs area suitable for renting out for parties.
ETA: I was right about the upstairs area

try Remi on W53rd between 6th and 7th - they have a great private room with beautiful Venetian glass lighting and the food is fantastic.
