FOLLIES recording I'd like to hear...

I'd like to hear the truly complete version of 1985 concert - the entire evening.

Has there ever been talk about releasing the complete evening?

The one I'd like to hear is the 1993 Melbourne, Australia concert.

1993.. I consider something of a FOLLIES fanatic... but I know little of this concert..

Who was in it? Which version did they do?

Is there that much to the 1985 concert that wasn't on the recording? Isn't it just some narration and some very minimal dialogue?

The Documentary suggests that there was more dialogue. And I don't know if the performed Bolero d'Amore.

I can give you more information later when I get home - or perhaps alterego or someone else will come on before then with more info, but it was directed by Tony Sheldon (currently Bernadette in PRISCILLA THE MUSICAL) and starred a virtual Who's Who of Australian musical theatre royalty, including Toni Lamond as Sally.

I know there was some dialogue, WalkOn, but I didn't think there was very much. And I'm pretty sure the bolero wasn't recordeed.

Perhaps you're correct.

I wonder if anyone here actually saw it? They could let us know if there was more dialogue.

I've heard a recording of a medley done by Sheldon and Lamond, and in it she sings a bit of Losing My Mind, and just that little section of it shatters the listener's heart into a million pieces.

I'd die happy if I got to hear the entire song sung by her.

I attended Follies in Concert at Lincoln Center in 1985. Yes, the dialogue was extremely minimal.. it began as if we were going to hear all the dialogue but that petered out quickly. The Bolero d'Amore was played. I don't recall if there was any dancing during the number. I think not. I'm glad to hold that night in my memory and to be able to view the documentary that shows things that we didn't see on that wonderful night.

All this from a "wingnut homophobe" who "sucks" ...I'm still trying to figure all that out re: FOLLIES recording I'd like to hear...

Thank you so much Tom14850!!!

Then yes.. I would like to hear the complete recording.. whatever snips of dialogue, however short, and the BOLERO.

I love the book to FOLLIES, so any addition of Goldman's words are very much welcome.

okay, okay...sheesh :)

I thought the idea was what recording is out of print, 200 dollars on ebay, etc...that you'd like to hear.

my bad.

Thank you Tom, I do have a copy of that recording.

However, the changes made from the original Goldman book didn't appeal to me. Still, I love listening to it.

Then you won't like what you haven't heard from the concert. The dialogue that made it on to the cd isn't the original dialogue either, for the most part.

So what is the deal with the SOUNDBOARD recording? re: FOLLIES recording I'd like to hear... Is it for sale anywhere or any other way of me obtaining it?

Like I said ANY addition would be welcomed...but I see your point.

re: FOLLIES recording I'd like to hear...

From what I've heard of the dialogue on the Follies concert not much of the real feel of Goldman's libretto was kept (I'm really not a fan of the recording though at all so prob the wrong person to judge--though I'm sure it was an amazing electrifying night to see live)

re: FOLLIES recording I'd like to hear...

Sondheim apparently wanted Bolero D'amour dropped and it was. He also made some changes:

The montage ending of "Broadway Baby" was dropped to let Stritch end it big the same way Ethel Shutta did on the original cast album.

The full ending of "The Right Girl" was used (it is on the OCR, but in the show the line "and I've Got…" led to a furious dance section. Does anyone know if the ending was created just for the OCR?)

The order of the spoken verses in "Loveland" was changed and I believe shortened.

The Chorus section of "The Story of Lucy and Jessie" was reconceived to be inside the song, and to eliminate the dance.

Purists were furious that the score was being altered for what was supposed to be the definitive recording, but all of these changes made for a better album.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

re: FOLLIES recording I'd like to hear...

I saw the '85 concert, and it was a truly electrifying evening. There was only minimal dialog but it didn't really matter, it was so well performed. The recording that was made from that remains my favorite, probably because of the memories associated with having been there. And when that recording was released, it was pretty much the only game in town as far as complete recordings go, as FOLLIES' reputation at that point was based solely on the original production - there hadn't been all the "major" revivals, all the subsequent recordings, the books, etc...

The "dream" recording I would love to hear would be a complete recording of the Original Broadway Cast with every note and every word of dialog intact. Packaged in a deluxe box with a full color booklet with never before seen photographs of the original production.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
