Sorry Anastasia_Beaverhausen, but David (Bud Bundy) Faustino doesn't count. The thread asked for famous people, not infamous people. re: Famous people enjoying the show w/ u...

When I saw Rent, Ryan Cabrera was there, becuase he dated Ashley, who's Jessica's sister, who's married to Nick, who's brother was Mark in the show I saw. Confusing, I know. Anyhoo, I think that's all the celebs I've seen at a show...

I sat near Jerry Lewis in the audience at Spamalot.

I saw Felicity Huffman in the audience at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles for Oklahoma! (She was with a lot of small children and left at intermission).

I sat behind Mindi Sterling (Frau from Austin Powers) for Wicked in Los Angeles at the Pantages.

A few years ago I sat a few seats away from Geoffrey Rush at The Wild Party (Mandy Patinkin version).

At the first-ever public performance of Mack & Mabel (Los Angeles) I sat near Jerry Herman in the back row of the orchestra seats.

Too many to name, far more than I can begin to remember. Honestly I can't think of when there wasn't at least a celeb or two when I've seen something.

I've bumped into Sondheim well over a dozen times through the years. He was sitting directly behind me the first time I saw Elaine Stritch At Liberty at The Public (I had to fight the urge to turn around and see his reaction to some of her stories about him). I saw him twice in one week once -- at the off-Broadway play "Blackbird" in this tiny theatre that sat 40 or so (he had to step over me to get to his seat) and then two days later at the final performance of Gypsy. He probably thought I was stalking him.

I've sat next to Sir Derek Jacobi, Michael Musto (more times than I can count), Hailey Mills, Rosie, Harvey Fierstein, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Matthew Broderick (at Wonder of the World starring Sarah Jessica Parker), a row away from Eric Stoltz, Jason Alexander, Mike Nichols and Diane Sawyer, Ian McKellan, Tim Rice at Spamalot (he loved "The Song That Goes Like This"), Barbara Cook at a John Kelly show at the Joyce ....... this is boring. There are dozens and dozens of others, but I can't remember them all (frankly it'd be easier to name the celebs I haven't seen or met or hung out with over the years than the ones I have -- and I NEVER do stage door). I don't get star struck at all, so just seeing a celeb barely registers with me usually. If you go to a lot of theatre and shows in NYC, you ALWAYS see famous people (especially late in previews near opening night). It's no big deal.

When I saw La Cage during very early previews, Jerry Herman was at the end of my row, four seats away, William Ivey Long was a few rows in front of Jerry, and Harvey Fierstein was a few rows in front of us at the other end of the row. Only after my friend and I got up a million times (to the bathroom, then to go buy stuff, then to talk to William Ivey Long) did we realize it was Jerry Herman. I felt terrible for making him get up so much, and then we were too embarrassed/shy to talk to him.

Chicago - Dina Merrill
Titanic - Richard Dreyfuss
The Full Monty - Hank Azaria
Noise/Funk - Gladys Knight
Amadeus - Barbara Barrie
Closer to Heaven - Sandra Bernhard
The Beautiful Game - Andrew Lloyd Webber
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas - Marvin Zindler (the real Melvin P. Thorpe)
The Houston Symphony - Olympia Dukakis, Marion Ross
Houston Grand Opera (A Little Night Music) - George R. Bush

I also met Michael Shurtleff at a performance in Houston a LONG time ago, but I don't remember the show. And I've run into Edward Albee at a half dozen or more shows in Houston and he had season tickets at my theatre. He's a hoot.

I was at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA last year and I ran into Mena Sulvari in the bathroom. She took my stall as I left so I literally ran into her.

I saw Taye Diggs at the stage door for Wicked last September -- yeah big surprise :)

Seems I run into famous people everywhere else -- the supermarket, the Coffee Bean, restaurants, movies.

"theaterbaby, what was that dialouge from with DANNY GURWIN and DIRECTOR SUSAN H.SCHULMAN?"

It's from the Broadway Abridged version of Little Women.

"I would probably wet my pants if I was sitting by Sondheim."

Yeah, I was a little red in the face after what I did. Funny thing though, 2 years later (this past May) he scooted over me to get to his seat at the last performance of "The Apple Tree." I was going to tell him that we needed to stop meeting like that, but considering he would most definitely not remember the Gypsy thing from 1 year before, I didn't say it.

At least Bush the Elder seems to have some taste.

His son probably wouldn't go to the theater unless the show featured at least three former Hee-Haw cast members and music by Charlie Daniels. Have you ever noticed how uncomfortable and bored he looks each year at the Kennedy Center Honors?

I sat next to the boy who played Vlad in the film 'CAMP' at the recent production of LITTLE SHOP when Hunter Foster was still in it.

Sat nearby Elaine Stritch at DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS and she seemd a tad bored. Or maybe a bit tipsy?

Sat next to Rosie O'Donnell, Kelly (her partner) and their children a week before TABOO closed. Very enthusiastic - but what else would you expect from the producing family?
