Hey there,
I did a search - couldn't find a topic on this yet. Unless it's buried deep in a thread? Anyhow, it's an easy question..
Anyone know how long she'll be contracted for?
Might go see her in August...
Thanks,

Till she closes it with all her horrible performances. I heard from a close insider that she is taking on the role of Celie to prove that Jennifer Hudson isn't the only good actress from AI... The insider also said the backstage crew will be investing in earplugs!

Lies, lies, jealousy, and more lies.
To the OP, I hear she'll be there for either 4 or 6 months.

I'd say until the advanced sales stop. I mean, of course they're not going to stop stop, but I'm sure the producers' financial statistics over the next month or so will experience a boost owed to her announcement, then a return to normalcy, upon which her successor will be announced.
Or, of course, she has a set departure already, and we don't know. :)
I believe it was the Broadway.com article (or one of the many others announcing her casting) that said she was contracted for a six month run.
Wait, so this is official now? She's really coming in? When?
April 10th is when she starts.
When does Bayardelle leave?
Edit: I found it.
ick!
I agree, ick!
To me, the whole show seems like something I wouldn't enjoy although I've never seen it, and this is certainly making me not want to see it...

Isn't it much too early for stunt casting...?
"It's official: American Idol third-season winner Fantasia Barrino will assume the role of Celie in the Broadway production of The Color Purple on April 10 for a six-month run."
Broadway.com article
Fantasia Barrino is slated to remain in the show until they announce a closing date, which isn't too far in the future.

Wow.
Funny they never say
"The Musical about Lesbian Love."
I love the color purple and it needs to stay open. It is such a touching story.
I imagine that she will generate a little bit of a boost to the lagging box office (in the 60's last time I checked). The schadenfreude aspect of it (which is the only reason i would go) should also help, but my prediction is that it will close sometime over the summer.
She did sing the crap out of the song on AI last week though.

Because that's not what the show is about. And you are a horrible person if thats all you were able to get from this show.
She'll be in it til she blows out her voice doing her Crack Addict Nell Carter impression she calls singing. That or gets busted for possesion of SOMA
She's in the till? Like, stealing?
I am not a horrible person, though many on the boards think I am.
But I do feel the lesbiam aspect of the show is played down, I mean the big love song in the show is between two woman.
Right?

She's going to be on Oprah this Wednesday. I'm curious if she'll sing a song from the show?
What song did she sing on AI, was it a Color Purple song?
