Fantasia on Oprah
Fantasia on Oprah#1
Posted: 2/28/07 at 2:23pmDid anyone see her on the show today? She got very emotional while she was singing. I thought it was pretty touching. She seems very excited about joining TCP. From the way she decribed what it was like watching it for the first time, it seemed like she really connected with the story.

re: Fantasia on Oprah#3
Posted: 2/28/07 at 2:35pmI heard she sang "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" from AVENUE Q.
re: Fantasia on Oprah#4
Posted: 2/28/07 at 2:42pmshe sang three songs total, the two aforementioned, and then capped it all off with a rousing rendition of "The Ladies who Lunch".

Posted: 2/28/07 at 5:36pmShe was great performing I'm Here on Oprah today. This version was better than what she did on American Idol, much more like what it will sound like when she is actually in character. She sang herself to tears and had Oprah and the audience from what I could see crying too.

Posted: 2/28/07 at 5:50pmI agree, Fantasia's performance was far superior to her performance on American Idol! I'm actually excited for her and to see what she can bring to the show!
re: Fantasia on Oprah#9
Posted: 2/28/07 at 6:07pmI did not think she did well...but I will wait till she opens to judge her.

I miss it... Does anyone know of a video of this performance online? I checked both Oprah and Fantasia's official sites, but nothing

I've always found Fantasia to be extremely expressive and connected to the songs she sang - especially when she did "Summertime" on AI. She sings with her whole heart and has an INCREDIBLE instrument.
I love her and I'm so glad she got national exposure on Oprah as she joins The Color Purple. I'm sure she'll be wonderful, and I can't wait to get my tickets.
I'm thrilled to be seeing and hearing so many wonderful roles for women of color. You go girls!
re: Fantasia on Oprah#12
Posted: 2/28/07 at 7:22pmShe seemed to strain on the high notes; hopefully she'll be at the top of her game when she starts her run.

Posted: 2/28/07 at 7:29pmi was kind of unhappy when i heard she would be joining the cast, but the girl sang the hell out of that song today. i look forward to seeing how she does

Posted: 2/28/07 at 8:25pmFantasia as Celie is wrong, wrong, wrong! The demands of this role are far beyond her reach! She may drum up box office, but I hope she doesn't kill this wonderful show.

Posted: 2/28/07 at 9:44pmShe was AMAZING... very touching... so much soul... she is going to be a fabulous Celie.

Why the hell are people being so negative? Sure that wasn't a perfect performance but I think it's safe to say it's better than most people on this board could do. Come on, can't we just let the people do their damn jobs?!? Sure you may not love her, but come on! Just remember for every negative thing your saying about someone, somewhere, someone else is saying something worse about you.
I wish her and all the other cast members the best of luck!
re: Fantasia on Oprah#22
Posted: 2/28/07 at 10:50pmWow! She's much better than when she sang on American Idol. Although I still have concerns, I can see why she was cast.

I think the negativity comes solely from the fact that she has "American Idol" attached to her name. Nothing more. Had she been a fresh talent on Broadway, I don't think there'd be as much negative things to say about Fantasia playing Celie.
What I love about her is she feels what shes singing. She doesn't need to force the emotions, they're just there. Thank you for posting the link, Hilltop.

i thought her voice seemed a bit like Oprah's in that it was very hoarse and didn't showcase her vocals at ALL when she sang. in fact, had she have not cried at the end i would've been disappointed. but i was really moved when she cried, i'll give ya that.
i don't see her crying every night on stage, though.
