What's your favorite (other than Don't Rain On My Parade)? I was listening to the entire album today on my iPod-songs I completely forgot about...and I have quite a few that I like:
-I actually find myself liking the overture. The upbeat parts only though. Ah, it sounds so goooood.
-I'm The Greatest Star-I forgot how good this one is...
-Cornet Man-I love the energy in it.
-Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat-Eh, don't know why. Liked it ever since we did the show.
-For some reason, I LOVE the first 5 seconds of The Music That Makes Me Dance. It's just the piano..ah, sorry.
Just curious-does anyone else love the Overture? The first like..15 seconds really turn me off to it...I actually never listened to it (owned it for about 9 months) until just like last week.
"Funny Girl's" overture is one of the best written for a musical, composed by Jule Styne who's also responsible for one of the greatest overtures ever for "GYPSY".

If I can't say "Parade" then I like "people" & "If a girl isn't pretty".......you must have been listening to the OBC, because I've never heard of some of those songs......I only have the soundtrack......
All of them. I love the score, but if I was forced to choose I'd say: "Music Than Makes Me Dance"
I've always loved "Who are you now?" - as a matter of fact, I've sung it in cabarets and auditioned with it - beautiful piece of music.

The overture is one of the best. Who Are You Now is my favorite song out a very good score.

Bah, I personally cannot stand People or Who Are You Now. I am not a fan of many slower songs, so it's not a surprise that I don't like these. Then again, I haven't listened to but the first 15 seconds or so..I'll listen to them tomorrow.

"Oh My Man I Love Him SO..." from the soundtrack.
I wasn't a big fan of the OBC, because I think Barbra gives better performances on the soundtrack.
Or perhaps that was the one I was used to, so it's the one I liked the best.
I also didn't have much time with the OBC.
I love love love Funny Girl (the song). Devestatingly beautiful.
Cornet Man!!
"I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!" -Zoran912
I think Barbra's voice is clearer on the soundtrack album, but I love the OBC. Is it just me or does she crack at the end of "Don't rain on my parade" (on the OBC). I love it!
I LOVE both "Cornet Man" and "Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat" ("I talk this way because I'm British!") but I also love "Who Are You Now"? and "I'm The Greatest Star"....This score is just so full of gems, it's hard to choose! And yes, I, too, love the overture - it's so...exciting!
I must say I also like the song sung by Eddie and Fanny's mother, "Who Taught Her Everything"- it's a really cute song, with very clever lyrics.
"I'm The Greatest Star" and "Cornet Man". I also love "I'd Rather Be Blue" from the movie soundtrack.
The Broadway OBC recording aways sounds 'odd'. I wish it had been recorded by Columbia or RCA, who knew how to capture a lush Broadway orchestra to perfection. Capitol didn't quite get it right. Even Barbra doesn't sound quite like herself.
Fun OBC recording fact: The mono version of "Cornet Man" is a different and much better "take" than the one used on the stereo version.
That said, I gotta go for "The Music That Makes Me Dance". One of the most gorgeous songs ever written for a Broadway musical, and one of Jules Styne's finest melodies.
There is a seldom-performed 'break verse' to it that goes: "To me, love is no-go/till fiddle and oboe/...start weeping...wailing/ That's my failing! He may be wrong for me/...but his is the only song for me.."

Yeah...the crack at the end of Don't Rain On My Parade kinda bothers me. I'm sure it wasn't a mistake or anything..
I've never seen the movie. Is it worth it? How about the soundtrack?

"My Man"-- in the film where she starts to cry-- oh my god... i lose it every time i see that part. she did that in one take, and did it live.

"My Man"-- in the film where she starts to cry-- oh my god"
Amen.
And it's too hard to pick a favorite song from this particular score. I love far too many to choose.

I just listened to some clips from the movie, and I don't really like the songs as much. Don't Rain On My Parade are so different from both...almost like 2 different songs. Obviously the quality is a little bit better..I wish they had that quality for the cast recording. It'd be so amazing. I don't really like Nick's voice on the movie. I didn't like Sydney's voice until just recently. I hated it but it's kind of grown on me. I love his voice on the recording now. The other guy is WAY too soft from the clip I heard of You Are Woman, I Am Man.
Omar Sharif played Nick in the movie and while he is certainly not a singer, I thought he played his part amazingly. He was such little singing to do also; just the parts in "You Are Women, I Am Man" and I think one line in "Sadie, Sadie". It was basically all Barbra singing, and that's perfectly fine with me.
And as for favorite song:
I'm the Greatest Star (Movie Version)- LOVE IT! When she sings "I'll blow my HORN", I always have an eargasim.
I'd Rather Be Blue is simply amazing to. And I think for the most part all the songs sound better in the movie.
And if you haven't seen "Funny Girl", RUN to go get a copy. It is the single greatest musical performance to grace the silver screens...well in MY opinion.

On the mono version of Cornet Man, you can hear Barbra say joyously "We're Goin' Home!" to the musicians and technicians towards the end of the song. Apparently it was a long session.
Im the Greaest Star deffinitley..
i like that song alot
Funny Girl has one of the BEST overtures...EVER!
And it's easy to edit out the slow parts. It works just as well.
I love the Greatest Star and His Love Makes Me Beautiful.
You said other than Don't Rain on My Parade, so I would select:
I'm The Greatest Star................it provides the singular most electrifying moment in the musical.
