I loved the DRS "The More We Dance" sequence also. And the PIAZZA lighting with the light behind Clara. Aah, so beautiful.
However, the most unique lighting technique I've ever seen was during the 2003 GYPSY revival. After "Baby June and her Newsboys," June and the boys and Louise started dancing a really cool step that made it look like they were moving. Then, a bunch of strobe lights flickered on and off quickly. You could still see June and the others, but they seemed to be growing and growing until the lights finally stopped. Then, Dainty June and all the other dancers ended the number right about then, all grown up.
Now THAT was cool.
