Mark Hellinger by fare one of the most beatiful in the world!
The Minskoff, Maquis and Gershwin should be bulldozed.
The Palace is pretty gorgeous too

Posted: 7/2/07 at 1:25pmLike everything else, it depends on what's playing on the stage and how well the director and designer have worked *with* the space instead of *against* it. I dont have a favourite or least favourite because I've seen shows that worked in theatres we would consider barns and shows that died in theatres we would consider intimate.

Belasco (I don't care if people say it's too old - it just feels homey to me)
Eugene O'Neill (love those purple seats)
Majestic (It feels so wonderful in there before they let all the patrons in)
Least Favorites:
Hilton (It just gives off a "plastic" feel to me)
August Wilson (love the show that's in it right now, hate the theater)

The problem with the more modern theaters is that modern architects do not understand what needs to go into a theater. I mean, just acoustics alone, not even getting into the visual element--you can be sitting eighth row, center in the Gershwin and not hear a thing. And to not hear any of what goes on in Wicked is quite a tribute to some designer's inability.
