R. SHOMAN
or
GLORYDAY
for me i used to think: Gloryday, without a doubt...
but i've been listening and i'm not so sure now!
I think I heard on the radio this past weekend (WERS - the Emerson College radio station) that The Lyric Stage of Boston has snagged the rights for their next season. I haven't been able to confirm, but perhaps someone can enlighten us on that?
When I saw the show I remember thinking that I loved R Shomon a lot more than Gloryday. Now having listened to the music on repeat since I got the album from preorder, I think I like Gloryday better.
My preference for R Shomon vs. Gloryday changes with each listening. The lyrics in Gloryday, to me, are beyond brilliant and the music in R. Shomon fits so perfectly in with the time period. I can't get over it.
Favorite songs are really hard..I don't think I can do it.

There Will be a Miracle and Gloryday Finale
I just got this CD and I don't think I could pick a favorite either. Menzel, Testa, Lohr, Kudisch, and Stram really all soar on this disc. Each one is excellent. I have to say, though, I am more prone to listening to Menzel's numbers.
I craved this CD for MONTHS while the wait for it dragged on and on - and when I got it - it was even BETTER than I could have expected. The emotion and intensity from the show translated really well onto the CD.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite song though - I love them all depending on the mood I'm in. "Coffee" makes me tear up just LISTENING to it - the combination of the lyrics and the way Idina sings the phrases is just very powerful. I also LOVE "Curiosity" - and that beautiful prayer that comes at the end of it. And the "You'll Go Away With Me Quartet" is just STUNNING - I love Idina and Aaron's voices mixing together as Marc and Mary list out their "a" words - it gives me chills every time.

I think that people are going to have to split up roles (for the BWW version). One person playing actress, one Kesa, one wife, one Medium, one aunt. Then everyone can have a chance.

There Will Be a Miracle
Quartet/ You'll Go Away With Me reprise
There Will Be a Miracle
Rising, Up
Kesa & Morito
In general, though, I think I prefer R Shomon to Gloryday.
Oh the lines of compromise. Touche, ashley. But it's an uneven amount of parts! As long as I get to sing Coffee or No More, I'm cool.
And if these parts become the new Elphaba/Galinda, someone must stab me in the eye.

I don't know if you've found the lyrics yet or not, but here they are.

Thanks! I found them on another site, but it always helps to have an extra site.

If you get one then I get the other. Those are my two of my absolute favorites. And it's interesting because so many people seem to overlook No More, but it's pretty amazing. The first time I played that song for someone, they were like, "Wow. She's angry." The acting is great. I love "You wanna play me baby well then you go right ahead."
I really enjoy "Kesa" and "There Will Be A Miracle."

AttendtheTale- I think you're right about Lyric Stage Theatre:

I can't really imagine seeing SWIWS with a different cast...but they do put on good productions at Lyric Stage Theatre.
And I can't really pick a single favorite song, but my favorites are Coffee, There Will Be a Miracle, You'll Go Away With Me Quartet and Rising, Up.
"One person playing actress, one Kesa, one wife, one Medium, one aunt."
Then I really really need to be Lily, haha.
As for which piece I prefer...R. Shomon or Gloryday, I'd have to go with R. Shomon. The pssibilties in this piece are endless, and each time I saw the show, I felt that every little choice all the actors made really had a powerful effect on what we thought of the rest of the act. It's just one of those things that will have my mind churning forever. And I like that.
Gloryday, I think, was a very intense emotional journey. I think it was easier for people to get swept up into the emotion of it (which I moset definitely did). It was something I think everyone can relate to, yet it still made us think.
i love EVERY song. My favorites would be Rising Up, Gloryday and See What I Wanna See
Lachiusa is a genious. I litened to a recital at my school last night where "The Light's of Broadway" was peformed and I just love that song!!!

Well, the CD is amazing, so it's hard not to love all the songs. I only wish I had seen the show!

OMG I HERD OF DIS SHOW B4!!! IT HAS EYEDINA MENZEL IN IT!
euthanasia. try it out sometime.
It seems like every time I listen to the CR I fall in love with the show again. It's unusual for me to find something that I feel like I won't ever tire of, and I think what I love so much is that it constantly grabs my ear and pulls me in and leaves me thinking.
And the CR is outrageously well done, the performances are amazing.
i love when everyone in the cast goes
"and she said"
during the title song.
