Kodama Sushi!

I also recommend City Kitchen- quick, good food, with lots of different options.

Gyu-Kaku is awesome. I've never been there before a show, though. I like to do the tabletop BBQ.

If you are going to a matinee, Becco has a very nice prix fixe lunch of 3 types of pasta plus an antipasto appetizer plate. We were seated around 1 and were able to finish with enough time to get to our 2pm show.

I discovered the Cock and Bull Pub after seeing Hedwig. It's on 45th between 5th and 6th, so you might have to walk a few minutes depending on where your theater is. It's good, reasonably priced food in a casual atmosphere, though. I love pub type establishments so I was happy.

Absolute fave - Joe Allen (Home of the infamous "flop wall" ) I especially recommend their burgers, lobster roll, liver & onions  (46th st - bet 8th & 9th) Reservations only available 1 week in advance.

Also Juniors, as mentioned earlier
...if you feel like French food,
Pergola des Artistes (46th & 8th)
Cafe Un Deux Trois (44th bet 7th & 6th) - especially handy for Belasco, Sondheim & Lyceum

Used to like Bond 45. It should be interesting to see how it turns out after its move next to the Lunt .

My mom and I always do Carmine's. It's family style, so the portions are huge, but we just order a "side dish" of eggplant parm and split it. Typically we sit in the bar area and it's never taken more than 5-10 mins to get a seat in there (we've done this 20+ times).

Just our little Broadway tradition!

Langan's - W 47th Street, English-Irish style pub food (Shepherd's Pie is awesome!)

El Centro - 9th and 54th if your theater is close to that (great Mexican - the Mex Corn on the Cob is fab!)

John's Pizza - W 44th by the St. James - touristy but get there early enough and get a table on high balcony - this fabulous spot was once the Manhattan bible Church and still has awesome interior - plus the brick oven pizza is the BEST!)

Westway Diner on 9th and 43rd is a bit off the beaten track, but it's a terrific full-service diner and very reasonable - plus full bar!

Cafe Un Deux Trois is one I frequent because I feel like they have a good selection (salads, sandwiches, entrees). If you like Italian, Da Rosina on Restaurant Row is very good and fairly priced. If we're in a hurry, we usually go to Bare Burger. On another note, I highly recommend Donna Bell's Bake Shop on 49th for sweets, over Schmackary's. Their cookies are so much better, but they offer a lot of other options (scones, cupcakes, brownies, etc). I'll never spend money at Schmackary's again, and am now figuring their draw is in their extended hours, not in their quality.

I love Joe Allen.  They have a yummy Thai veggie stew.  It's delicious.  I like the atmosphere too.

I also prefer to eat after the show for fear of wanting to go to the bathroom during the show :)

Anyways, Ootoya Times Square is my favorite in the area.

One of my favorites is La Masserria on W 48th. Very good Italian food but it is a bit pricey.

I prefer The Melt Shop on 8th Ave followed by a drink at Starbucks next door. I don't like to eat a full meal before a show.

I've eaten at John's many times pre-theatre.  Great NY pizza in a surprising building.  Discovered HB Burger just this weekend.  Terrific food and great staff.  Both places are definitely recommended!

Love Carmine's but have only been there with group of 8-10 people.

"I still maintain dinner after the show is better. If you're with friends you might have something new and interesting to discuss like...the show you just saw!"

To each their own but I like dinner before the show (around 6pm). After the show, I usually go with my wife/and or daughters to Juniors for dessert and discuss the show.
