Featured Actress in a Musical: Judy Kuhn; We've got a hand full of a handful of longtime nominees this year who've never won before. I think if anyone from Fun Home ends up canceling each other out, it would be the two Alison's. Plus, having heard Kuhn sing Days and Days on the new cast recording today, she really gives a very emotional performance.
Featured Actress in a Play: Annaleigh Ashford; For an actress normally known for doing musicals, she held her own against a huge ensemble of stage and screen veterans in a straight play. As Patrick Pacheco often theorizes, the voters often tend to vote for what they enjoyed the most.

I agree that Kuhn and Ashford are probably in a good position to win right now.
In You Can't Take It With You, Ashford sang, danced ballet, and did that weird character voice of hers, all things she would typically do in a musical. I guess all she needed to do to be a Tony frontrunner was to be cast in a play!

I agree that Judy Kuhn will win - and I loved her (and Emily Skeggs, too, for that matter) - but I'm rooting for Sydney Lucas who I found truly astonishing.

I think Judy Kuhn will win and I actually think she deserves it for that heartbreaking performance. Sydney was very good, but there was something in Kuhn's performance that just broke my heart. (It would have been easy for her to slip into mere bitterness and yet she didn't...and it somehow made the performance much more compelling and true.)
Annaleigh Ashford will probably take featured actress in a play (I wish that show was still running-such a great production). I do wonder if someone from an open show (Lydia Leonard comes to mind) might win, but I think Ashford is a safe bet.

Kuhn would get my vote, but I think Ruthie Ann Miles will win.
Annaleigh Ashford appears to be the strong front-runner at this point.

Someone on another thread commented that Kuhn's role, Helen, has (or seems to have) grown since Fun Home moved uptown. Could anyone elaborate on that? Have there been actual changes in the book or score that put more focus on Helen? Or is it that Kuhn has stepped it up (not that I found her at all lacking at the Public)?
I ask because downtown it just didn't strike me as a Tony turn (and far less than the Alisons).

It's a tough choice. I do "worry" that all the Fun Home gals will indeed cancel each other out.
My HOPE: Lucas followed by Kuhn.
Annaleigh for the win, she was amazing.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I hope Patricia Clarkson still has a shot. I thought her performance was wonderful and she is well respected by her peers, so I wouldn't count her out for play either.

I hope it's Lucas (or Kuhn) but I have a sneaking suspicion Ruthie Anne Miles might take it.
I have no predictions in the play category but I have to say that Julie White gave my favorite performance of all the nominees.
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Oh my lord. Ok I'm sorry I know I've said this before, but I'm REALLY surprised that people think Annaliegh is a front runner, and I pray that any one of the far more deserving nominees wins over Ashford's nails-on-a-chalkboard performance. It was the same shtick she always does, except this time she looked dead in the eyes and never actually acted. I'd love to see the award go to Clarkson or Leodard for their powerful performances.
