To answer you qustion, Chenoweth was trained in opera so yes. Lauren Molina was in Sweeney and did a wonderful job singing Green Finch and Linnet Bird. And Benanti is has a wonderufl soprano. Chekc out the song Initials from the Hair concert CD. That song shows off her wonderful soprano and of course she can belt cus she was in wedding singer.
And Switz, Eden is a soprano there was an interview with her on playbill.com around the time of the Wicked LA opening. She said that she has a good soprano and can do the classical stuff easilly but all of the roles she has been cast in were pop belt.

Does Lauren Molina belt, though? I've certainly never heard that.

Mentioned previously, but it's worth pointing out that Judy Kuhn has played both quintessential belting and soprano roles on Broadway, in Chess and She Loves Me respectively. Wish she had gotten to record the latter. Diane Fratantoni was good, but not "Judy Kuhn"-good.

I'm not that impressed with Laura Benanti's belting.
Lauren Molina has belted and she's quite good; I can't remember what song I heard, but she most definitely belted.
Why has no one mentioned Alice Ripley yet? :o Or Ruthie Henshall, who was in She Loves Me?

Wow, and no one has mentioned Betty Buckley...(love to Betty!)
I never considered Marin Mazzie to be a soprano, she goes into soprano range, but for the most part, she seems like an alto.

I'm shocked no one has mentioned Marla Schaffel yet.
I'm okay with being unimpressive. I sleep better.

Problem is, I've never heard Marla sing soprano! Though she was asked to play Christine in Phantom so she must be good.

I agree...Kelli O'Hara has a beautiful soprano voice but is also quite strong when she belts. She is amazingly talented!

Bumping this...
I want to add to the list Linda Eder (played Lucy in Jekyll & Hyde)- have you heard some of her solo stuff? Her soprano is GOREGOUS and she has such a pure mixed/chest belt.
Also, Leslie Henstock. I saw her as Cosette in Les Mis on tour and she was amazing... and has an amazing high belt when singing Defying Gravity.
Nowadays, it's practically required for actressess' to be able to sing both soprano as well as have a full belt voice.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Carol Lawrence, the original Maria in West Side Story, who used both her beautiful lyric soprano and her fabulous belt voice in Subways are for Sleeping and Saratoga. And she could project above a full orchestra in a fairly large theatre without a microphone half way up her throat like most of today's Broadway singers need to be heard.
Also, Jane Powell had both a gorgeous soprano and strong belt voice, although she didn't use her belt very often in film musicals.

I don't think it's fair to require sopranos to have to be able to belt, too. Plus, belting takes away the color of the top register for sopranos.
