Hello,
With the cast recording of the new production of Fiddler on the Roof album coming out in March, what does everyone think is the best cast recording of the show? Which one would you buy or recommend to new listeners of the score?

The original is my favorite. Maria Karnilova and Zero Mostel singing Do You Love Me is tops.

I second that! The original is truly incredible. I'm quite anxious to hear the new recording. From that little video snippet in the recording studio, the cast sounds great!

Im anxious to hear the recording of matchmaker!! Alexandra Silber, Samantha Massell and Melanie Moore all sound amazing in the snippets that have come out!
I like the original Broadway cast album and the 2004 revival recording. That revival is the only production of Fiddler that I've actually seen and the recording has more music and dialogue than the original with an additional song written for the production called "Topsy-Turvy" which I think is a fun addition to the score.

OBCR is the best obviously but I wish they would have included the Tevye's monologues since I love singing long to those parts lol
The OBC recording is the go-to, but the film soundtrack on CD is a magnificent recording, too. Sonically amazing!! I love the movie, but if you don't, there's no faulting the soundtrack album with Topol.

I have both the original Broadway cast with Zero Mostel, and the London recording with Topol.
Even though I like both, the one I favor is the cast recording with Topol. I like the orchestrations, and "Tradition" is great. As is the young man who sings "Miracle of Miracles." Great recording.
I probably listen to the film soundtrack the most, but I love the two songs cut from the broadway show so i often listen to them on their own. John Williams' film arrangements are amazing!
