First Musical Theatre Experience

Hi guys,

Just wondering what your first musical theatre experience was [ie, what show, when, where, age]. I know they can be pretty magical and can shape your future love of theatre.

Mine was watching the Phantom of the Opera at around 11 years of age. The opening with the chandelier rising above the audience is forever cemented in my mind. Incredible!

The first musical I ever saw was my cousin's middle school production of Annie. My cousins played Pepper and FDR. The first musical I saw that got me interested in theatre was when I was 10, and I saw a musical about the excavation of King Tut.

If I may just respond to the links to other threads, I don't think this is necessarily a redundant thread, because your first musical theatre experience isn't necessarily limited to just seeing a musical. Your first musical theatre experience could also be being a part of a show, whether it be onstage, backstage, or in the booth. This is just my opinion, though.

"Where's Charley?" with Ray Bolger in 1950! I don't remember where it was the St. James or the Broadway. Think it was the St. James. I do remember Ray singing "Once in Love with Amy" and the hysterical response he generated as he performed encore after encore. My first musical and my first showstopper! Delighted to have the opportunity to remember,
