The Phantom of the Opera, when it came to Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre May of 2004. I went to the musical after watching the tape. To this day, it still ranks as one of my top all-time favorites, and I can't wait until it comes back to Chicago again! It was the musical that actually inspired me to go out and read the novel! Loved it!
First movie musical in a theatre was Sound of Music..On TV it was the Wizard of Oz followed by Cinderella. First Live show was Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience at the NY G & S Society. The first amateur production was Hello Dolly , and the first actual Broadway musical was Jesus Christ Superstar..
1989 australian cast of ANYTHING GOES, I was four. It had simon bourke and geraldine turner in it. Still LOVE Simon Bourke (he has done lots of stuff on west end)
The Paper Bag Players. I was two and I fell in love with theater from that moment on. I was so captivated I would not leave. LOL. What came first the chicken or the egg? My parents never stopped hearing us sing that. I also remember "Free to be you and me" with Marlo Thomas. Some pivotal theater for me as a child. Updated On: 10/24/06 at 10:45 AM
Probably one of the old war horses performed by my gran's amatuer operatics group. The first professional production I saw was Just So at the Tricycle, London in 1991, followed by Moby Dick in London in 1992. Inexplicably, that was when I got hooked... Updated On: 10/24/06 at 11:22 AM
I probably saw the Sound of Music movie first, but the first musical I ever saw onstage was "Cinderella" in 1984.
I don't know if it was a tour or a reigonal production, but I loved it. It was just so big and glamorous and I loved dressing up and going. My first broadway show was Les Mis, but that came a few years later.
Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight
First Movie Musical: Probably The Wizard of Oz -- it was my favorite movie when I was a VERY young kid. I used to watch it more than once each day and I played the record of the soundtrack all the time.
First Live Show: It was either A Christmas Carol or The Miracle Worker at the Dock Steet Theatre in Charleston back in the early to mid eighties. I saw one with my parents and the other on a school field trip, but I can't remember which came first.
First Live Musical: I saw Robert Goulet in South Pacific back in 1988 here in Charlotte, NC shortly after my family moved here.
First Show on Broadway: I saw the OBC of Sunset Boulevard at the end of my senior year in high school in spring 1995 while on a NYC trip with my school's chorus.
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man
My first theatrical experience came on a field trip to a theater in the city next to me. We took many field trips there, maybe twice a year right up until 5th grade. I have no idea what any of the plays were, save for "A Christmas Carol" in 3rd grade.
I'm not sure about my first musical movie exposure, but it was most certainly a Disney movie. Updated On: 10/24/06 at 02:36 PM
The first movie musical I saw was probably Little Shop of Horrors or Grease. The first Broadway musical I saw was The Lion King, followed a number of years later by Little Shop of Horrors. The first non-Broadway musical I saw was probably one of those Sesame Street things at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ(if you count those).
