Five Things To Do Before You Die!

No not the title of a new musical but, I have been reading a number of posts and many people express in them their regrets at not having done things.

So I thought I would start this thread about things that people should do or even have done before they die. As this is a theatre message board try to focus on that but if it does stray off then clearly this is serving a therapeutic outpouring.

So who's first.......?

If I had any musical or creative talent, I'd love to write a Rosemary's Baby musical. I'm so surprised it hasn't been done before.

I'd like to streak too. I might do it during The Woman in Black. Now that would make the schoolkids scream.

Away from theatre, I'd love to meet the eight main player Bay City Rollers. So far I've only met Les and I've spoken to Duncan on the phone. I have procured a supposedly up to date phone number for Woody, but I'm too scared to phone it.

re: Five Things To Do Before You Die!

Oh, I didn't realise I had to do five. I need two more...

I'd go to Broadway. I've never been. I need to renew my passport but I lost my expired one when I moved house last November. Will that hinder things?

Again, not theatre related, but I'd bring back Chambourcy Hippopotamousse. I was about five when they stopped making it but I can still taste it when I think hard enough. F*cking amazing stuff.

Five theatre things? Hmmm.

- Mount a promenade production of Floyd Collins in some caves.
- Play one of Shakespeare's great romantic heroes (I may be a girl, but I'd be a freakin' awesome Romeo or Benedick).
- Follow Rupert Goold around for a week while he works, preferably in an invited capacity and *not* hiding behind bushes!
- Direct a fantabulously creepy and sexy Hamlet.
- Book a ticket for a play at the Donmar Warehouse *in advance*.

Of those five, I suspect the last one is the least likely. There's a little patch of concrete on Earlham Street that has grooves to match my buttocks now. re: Five Things To Do Before You Die!

Hmmmm

OK Bring Carrie back with the rewrites me and my writing partner did a few years ago.

After all the roles ive been lucky (or unlucky) enough to play i would still love to play Roger in Rent

By the Tameside Hippodrome Theatre in Ashton to stop it from getting pulled down grrr

Have one of my plays (hopefully my next one 'Rage' get picked up by a super important producer.

Be able to sleep more than a few hrs a night

i suspect the last one will never happen lol

Just a cheeky extra one...

I'd like to get my hands on the marketing for the new Marlowe in Canterbury. I'd make that city the cultural hotspot it should be.

1. see a musical in another language !
I've done that (Le Roi Lion in Paris, which oddly I haven't seen in English).

1. See a musical on Broadway (well hopefully 8 in a week!), I too have never been
2. See more plays (I have only seen about 6 compared to about 50 musicals)
3. See Starlight Express in Germany (I have only seen the touring 3D video races version)
4. See more small, new shows
5. Take my Beaver Scout Colony to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang next spring

1. persuade ALW to retire and take up theatre restoration seriously.

2. Produce a show from out of copyright material on a black box set with piano accompaniment only, with a cast of two, that becomes a big fat hit at the Palladium and runs for 20 years so I can live off the income.

3. Meet Stephen Sondheim and bow at his feet.

4. Become Patti Lupone's agent and ensure that she never works again.

5. Buy the Her Majesty's Theatre and make it the home of the National Musical Theatre, offering short runs in rep of classic musicals and causes celebres, whilst using the rehearsal room upstairs as a studio for new writing and experimental workshops.

re: Five Things To Do Before You Die!

Five things to do before I die:
1. somehow get a full production of Moulin Rouge on a stage.
2. somehow get Angela Lansbury, Chita Rivera, Liza Minelli, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Christine Ebersole, Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Elaine Paige and Stephanie J Block all on the same stage at the same time.
3. found a National Musical Theatre in Oz that lasts for more than 2 years, starting off with a few years of classic programming to build a subscriber base before trying shows like Floyd Collins - what was Peter Cousens thinking.
4. see a Shakespeare in the Park performance in New York.
5. somehow make a career out of my love of theatre :) ... any suggestions?
