Ask that question again when they fix everything.
I also haven't seen many of the new musicals yet. I still like GREY GARDENS the most.

They need to cut at least a half hour--maybe even 45 minutes--and focus more on the story they are trying to tell, rather than having the show be one long parade of epic theatre conceits. If they can achieve that (and I think they can), it could have a shot at a Best Musical nomination. I can't see it winning, though. Murphy and Cerveris will definitely be nominated, and David Pittu may have a shot. It will definitely be nominated for sets, lighting and costumes.

"rather than having the show be one long parade of epic theatre conceits."
Interesting I thought Hal Prince has said a number of times he's not a fan of Brecht's audience distancing epic theatre?

AC - I noticed that, too. But couldn't tell if it was just first preview kinks that had to be worked out. (The style wasn't fully realized, so it could have gone one way or the other.)
The first time I thought it was successfully used was during Lenya's make-up scene at the end of the show. But that went on and on forever.

Personally, I think they should cut him. John Scherer does a great job, so nothing against him. But it's the Lenya-Weill love story. Weill gets one final song IT NEVER WAS YOU and Lenya should get her finale SEPTEMBER SONG as a solo.
They really only need Lenya and Weill. But I sort of like having more characters to the play. I just think the other characters should be those revolving around Lenya and Weill's love. (Even though they used Davis in a role before he and Lenya got together.)

Posted: 4/17/07 at 4:58pmI believe the actual changes will be seen tonight. So hopefully someone on this board or ATC will report back after tonight's performance. Apparently, Prince only cut 15 min. for tonight's show, we'll see though.

It will definitely be nominated for sets, lighting and costumes.
I can see it maybe getting nominated for lighting and costumes, but it WILL NOT be getting a nomination for set. In a year with Grey Gardens, Legally Blonde, and Mary Poppins (who will win the set award solely because of the ferris-wheel type nursery), LoveMusik does not have that much to offer in terms of sets. My guess is that the 4th slot will go to Curtains or maybe even High Fidelity (the only thing decent about that show was the rotating set).
