Sh*t.
What a shame.
I'm deeply saddened but not surprised. I really hoped that the reshuffle would have worked but I guess not.
I spent around $100 or more with them most months.
Well done guys.

Sorry to hear that. I really loved browsing there when it still functioned as a store downtown. I guess it's just a sign of the times and the advent of the Internet and amazon.com. But it was a fun place to go while it was still a store.
I spent hours in that store on visits to New York, always found many things and ended up walking out with some wonderful old gems and a much lighter wallet!
I will miss them. What a great resource for hard to find recordings. (And you are right Ed, when it was a store it was a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon just browsing and eavesdropping on tons of juicy gossip.)
Moi aussi
I spent many happy hours at the store way back when, and lots of my favorite European cast recordings came from there
I'll really miss them

i will miss it to because i do most of my buying there because normel stores like borders will not have what you want.
I dragged my dad there on a trip to New York. I think I spent two hours plus in there...my dad looked like he wanted to be somewhere else but really understood what it meant to me to be there. I shopped the mail order catalog for years before that, but to finally go to the store, sort through the CDs and the vinyl (!!) I'm sure I spent way too much on that trip - why compromise...
I bought the Sondheim "Book of the Month" box set on vinyl for $35 on that trip - gently used. I thought I had died and gone to show tune heaven.
I've been preparing for this sad, but inevitable moment for years. We lost our local version of Footlight Records years ago - another sign of the times. (Smith's Records of New Orleans).
I'll miss Footlight something fierce, as the weirdest, most far-out floppiest shows were bought there, as well as my introduction to the greatest, classic, main stem Broadway showstoppers.

That is a real shame.
Yes it was overpriced and crowded - but that's NYC!
I'll miss seeing that sign and killing time in there before shows.
And..what a loss to sheet music buyers. It's not like a lot of sheet music or songbooks are really advertised. You never know what you'll find until you browse the stacks.
Regional sheet music stores will never have this comprehensive a collection.
(little tears)..
I just put in my last order.
It was never the same on line but at least it was there. After this, than Virgin bites the dust. Not many left unfortunely.
Does anyone remember Gaiety records where the Marriott is now?
Again?
Now isn't the only good place in NYC to get music COLONY? Do I have that right?
