If you have yet to pick up the 1999 CD "Soundtrack" version of the film with Donny Osmond and Maria Freidman or as I like to say... "Donny and Maria" (hehe) be sure to do so! It's a great soundtrack. The most complete JOSEPH CD I have found. It has all the 'One More Angel' dance music, the apache dance music for 'Canan Days', the extended 'Potiphar' seduction music...it's all there. Sure, Donny can be a little annoying at times, but I'm over all that now. The only place I've been able to find it is at the Really Useful Website. It's worth it! It comes with lots of pictures and the design of the CD is really nice. Very colorful and all. It's much, much better than the LA or London revival CD's by far......... happy listening! thanks for the post. donny may be scary, annoying to some and mormon, but he's BY FAR the best joseph vocally on a recording.
i think maria friedman is poop. i don't know why London sweats her!
:) - looking for Janet Metz' nasal belt
LOL!!!!! Sorry, the "poop" comment caught me off guard. There's a phrase that NEEDS to be used more often! Great post! Updated On: 4/22/04 at 08:04 PM

I heard Jon Secada was Joseph in the Nat'l tour. Is this true?
Nothing to do with Donny Osmond...but I was in the ensemble of the original Broadway cast...so I'm a BIG Joseph fan. Anyone who wants to discuss it...I'm all ears and opinions :)

I saw Donny do Joseph in Toronto. He was fantastic--the entire show was wonderful. And, I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan...and a Mormon, too. :o) It was excellent. The audience really enjoyed themselves!

when did they start saleing the recording of the movie version of joseph in stores??? and why do yo uthink maria friedmen is poop??? thanks :)
I prefer holy-poop-on-a-stick. Thank you very much!
I don't like Maria that much either, I really couldn't stand the video with her and Donny, I like the musical and I like Donny as Joseph (only) but the movie was crap
The first time I saw the movie we were showing the video to some kids at a Performing Arts Camp i used to work at. I wasnt really paying attention to it, then i saw Donny out of the corner of my eye and i couldnt help but laugh!! He just looked... so .. well .. i dont know. i just found it hilarious. I couldnt picture him as Joseph. It is one of my favorite show though. I could listen to "Close every door to me" for hours!" i was in it when i was younger. Coleen Sexton was actually the narrator in the one i was in. She must have been only 16 - phenominal. Anyway, its an amazing show!
I do believe they started selling the soundtrack CD in LONDON in 1999. And I don't think it was really ever officially released in the United States. The only way to get it, that I know of, is through their web site.

can't stand maria's narrator, so breathy, not belty or exciting. ![]()
I'm looking for Kelli Rabke's or, ofcourse Laurie Beechman's soulful belt fest.
As for the Donnie video, I know this sounds stupid, but it's too cheesy, even for Joseph!!
Well, I'd have to agree with that. There is cheese involved, like the snake in the pit, the goat, the Ismalites (sp?), some of the costumes, the sunglasses, the camera, the peace signs...I could go on and on, but it has its moments. My younger sister liked it so perhaps it was kind of tailed to a younger audience (despite some of the EXTREMELY revealing costumes). But the visuals aside, the completeness of the CD is great. It's fun to finally have the dance music for "One More Angel" and the apache dance music... etc, etc.
yeah poop is a great word...it's just so lovely and can lighten any conversation..i have a ton more, that i'll probably use at some point soon :)
but i pretty much think that was the first thing that came to my mind when i saw maria friedman..she destroyed the London cast version of Passion!!
yea, donny's a bit cheese, but yea i guess i'm over that. it's a great part for him..even though he's SCARY OLD, for the SECOND YOUNGEST BROTHER!!!! i definitely prefer Laurie to Kelly...doesn't kelly puss out on Jacob & Sons? - i want to say so.

Kelly is the ONLY one on cd that sings the high part of jacob and sons the whole way through. Janet Metz, Linzi Hately sing harmony towards the end instead of staying up there.
I love Laurie, she was the first female narrator! Her songs are significantly lower, but she still belts some high stuff! "Letting out a mighty roar" being one!
ok, then it must have been beechman i was thinking about.
but i could have sworn rabke does something with changing the melody or something.
metz is annoying to listen to at times - but that girl goes for it. i like that about her.
I have it and I love it!!! Our theatre class watched it because we were getting ready to do it, and I love love love me some Donny!
I think John Tartaglia should play Joseph...imagine him in that tiny little loincloth...woof!
J Tags as Joseph would be wonderful! He could totally pull it off. And I would love to pull his loin cloth off! Kidding kidding. But I think if ever a revival comes around, John Tartaglia is my man, I mean, the man!
yeah...and skip the whole long hair thing... he looks perfect just the way he is.... Plus, I think it's time Broadway got a little more risque so during the Potiphar's wife seduction scene... there should be a little falling of the loincloth. In the bible I have it says Potiphar's wife pulled the loincloth off of him and he ran out of the chamber naked....
Ew, no long hair. In relation to Potphar's wife pulling the loincloth off of Joseph, I second that motion!

I've only heard his renditions of "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Every Door". Both are very good and I'm especially fond of the changes he makes to the vocal line at the end of "Close Every Door".
Chrysanthemum - Jon Secada is playing Joseph in the National Tour.

I actually found Kristine Fraelich to be the best Narrator. I don't remember much about the show except that I loved her and Sam Harris' voices. Does anyone know what she is up to now?
I'm just taking time out to say that I saw Joe Machota in the Troika tour of Joseph eons ago, and the show was pretty awful.
He was okay. I could tell he was sick. But he and the Narrator understudy (Sandy Hawker, who I believe did eventually go Eq) were the best things on stage that day.
Oh, and I'm thinking of selling the brochure on eBay. We shall see.
