Either in the same production or in different productions through out the world, who in your opinion, was the Best Elphaba, Glinda and Madame Morrible?

People care about Madame Morrible?

I think you just want to tally up who mentions Patty Duke.

Why not just ask, "How many of you saw Patty Duke and loved her?"

I have only seen the show twice (but many times on taped performances) and my favorite Elphaba is Eden Espinosa, favorite Galinda would have to be Katie Rose Clarke. She was amazing when I saw it Wednesday.

Because Liz I really wanted to know about the other two too.

Best Morrible- Alma Cuervo-HANDS DOWN! Better than Carole Shelley. Alma had a real sinister, creepy vibe and her shrieking about Elphaba being a witch actually scared the s@#t outta me. Total props.

Patty Duke no-showed when I saw it in SF-so up hers.

Best Elphaba-Carmen Cusack. Better than EYEDEENAAAA or any of the other disposable green forklift riders. Carmen brought some real depth and humanity to the role and her rock and roll growl during Defying Gravity knocked my socks off. Carmen is top notch and I hope she never has to go back to the Wicked treadmill.

My favorite Elphaba is Glea Michelphaba hands down.

I've only seen the show once (Victoria Matlock and Christina DeCicco) so I can't really comment that much.

Well Diva many people have played the parts since then, so we are doing a 2010 version.

And Liz I see that others do "care" about Madame Morrible too For those who have seen different actressES in Wicked
And really this thread has do with my reaction to the thread where the person wrote how horrible Annaleigh Ashford is in Wicked.

Elphaba - Donna Vivino, although I thought Dee Roscioli did a great job.
Glinda - Kendra Kassebaum, with Katie Rose Clarke in a close second.
Fiyero - Richard H. Blake
The Wizard - Lenny Wolpe/PJ Benjamin. Those two are tied. I LOVE the role of the Wizard. Hopefully this show is still running by the time I am 40/50 because I would love to play him.
Madame Morrible - Jill Hayman was INCREDIBLE! She was an understudy in the Chicago cast. I also enjoyed Myra Lucretia Taylor too.
Nessarose - Brynn O'Malley
Boq - Ben Liebert.

Sorry, I just gave you the cast. I've seen the show 4 times. Three times on tour (Detroit '06, Detroit '08 and Cleveland '09) and once in Chicago '06.

Well excuse me TheatreFan. I just noticed it not too long ago when I guess someone must have posted something NEW (2/9/10) to the posting, this then brought it up to the first page.

Obviously Idina and Kristen were the best because they were the originals and no one can ever top the original cast.

But seriously, I've only seen the show twice with Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba on tour and Idina Menzel in London. IMO Block was definitely better than Menzel, who simply screamed and yelled her way through the show.

I've only seen two different casts.

Victoria Matlock > Kerry Ellis
Christina DeCicco > Kendra Kassebaum

and no, I've never seen Marvelous Wonderettes.

I saw Kristen and Idina when it first opened and they were both brilliant. I know a lot of people don't care for Idina, but I thought her performance was beyond incredible. A close second to her would be Shoshana Bean, who was even better than Idina in some ways (No Good Deed, anyone?) and just as powerful. I also saw Eden Esponosa's first performance as standby for Elphie in Wicked, and I didn't see what all the fuss was about.

Jennifer Laura Thompson had a beautiful voice and was a very worthy replacement for Chenoweth...she was very sweet at the stage door.

I saw it in London in 2007, and Miriam Margolyes played Morrible. She was alright, but I had seen Carol Shelley as Morrible five times before that, so I guess I'm more used to her. I felt Margolyes was good, but there's nothing like Shelley.

I'm surprised Lansbury hasn't played Morrible. It seems like such an excellent role for her.

I have to say Alli Mauzey is my favorite Glinda, I adored her performance each time I saw her.

As for Elphaba, I've seen some great actresses in the role: Stephanie J. Block and Kerry Ellis come to mind, Nicole Parker as well... I honestly can't choose one.

Madame Morrible... I loved Miriam Margolyes, she added a lot of excess (sexual) humor to the role that I haven't seen anyone else do.
