I think it’s a perfect time for a revival of Applause. I saw the original in Broadway with Lauren Bacall and Penny Fuller. I thought it was GREAT!! Who can ever forget the song Welcome to the Theater??
Does anyone remember a flop called Cry for us All? I believe it premiered during the 1972 Broadway season. What about a musical called Ari? It was the musical version of Exodus

I also want to mention another musical which I had the pleasure of seeing: The Rothschilds. WONDERFUL show and great score.

The beautiful music: “In my own Lifetime”, and let’s not forget that Bobby Benson also appeared in the show.

I’ve never seen “Candide” and always wanted to. Have they ever done a revival? Not in my memory and I’ve been an avid theater goer for many years.

I've been taking a lot of pleasure in introducing my friends to Dance of the Vampires over quarantine - it is a campy chaotic mess, but it makes me laugh harder than almost any well written comedy these days. "
Don't know if is exactly forgotten or people would like to forget it. But, Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields "Seesaw" sticks in my mind. It had a drama filled out of town Detroit tryout, most notable for the firing of Laine Kazan. And a short run ,at The Uris and Hellinger,of nit even a year before closing There was a short road tour with Lucie Arnaz and John Gavin and the whirlwind dynamo 6'6" Tommy Tune doing " It's not where you start Its where you Finish". But there are some good tunes, and Tommy ascending and descending a large staircase are forever imprinted on my memory.
I always listen to "My Friend Albertine." I think it has some gorgeous tunes especially "Is It Too Late?"

I saw CFUA in Boston, where it had its pre-Broadway run. It changed its title either to or from Who to Love.
when I saw it, I was convinced that it was going to follow La Mancha as a great hit for creatives of both. I loved it, thought the scenery was brilliant (one of the best ever to this day), performances were excellent, and the score was very good. I still remember several songs 55 years later, having only heard them once.
I did not see ARI, but remember that it got terrible reviews and closed within the week (as I remember).
I doubt we will ever see Applause again. While I enjoyed it, it really was not very good and, short of reincarnating Bacall, it’d be DOA.

There were two revivals in my lifetime, the first in 1973 (a pretty legendary staging by Hal Prince), and about 10 years later, which was a flop. They revamped the Broadway Theatre even more than HLL. Quite a great production.

Patty and Maxine,John Travolta singing Dream Drumming,Janie Sell ,Samuel L. Wright singing Don't shoot the whooey to me Louie. This tried out at the Shubert Philadelphia"
And Anne Reinking in the showstopping ‘Charlie’s Place Saturday Night. I think unknown Treat Williams was also in the cast.

I believe the production Hal Prince directed starred Lewis J. Stadlin. The legendary Katherine Hepburn crawled in and copied up to one of the actors in an on stage bed. God I miss the great Kate, who while in "A Matter of Gravity" at the Forrest Theater growled at a theater goer ,justifiably so,who snapped a picture upon her entrance. After the show, on the little alley between the theater proper and the dressing room building while waiting for her autograph the same guy tried to snap her picture and she lunged at him. Classic. We were instructed to write our addresses on the program, and she would autograph them later and mail them to us. Which she did. Class all the way. Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread.

Yes it's insane how many people of later notoriety were on the show. At the curtain call after bows,at least in Phila, Patty and Maxine did a couple of thier older but timeless hits.

I don’t know why Encores doesn’t do this some time. It’s pastiche score is incredible melodious.
Re prior post, they sang for about 20 minutes. That alone was worth the price of admission.
