HI
Were the theaters full? i saw ragtime and it was empty. I hope it was just that people are shopping friday afternoon and not going to the theater, I hope it doesnt mean no one is buying tickets,. The show is fantastic!

Posted: 11/27/09 at 5:36pmI'm getting nervous that every time someone posts about going to see RAGTIME lately, the theater's been empty.
re: Friday after thanksgiving matinee audiences#4
Posted: 11/27/09 at 8:49pmThat worries me as well. The Friday matinee after Thanksgiving is a notoriously busy day for Broadway. I'm surprised to hear that the theatre at Ragtime wasn't full. Kind of curious as to how "empty" it was.

The past 3 times I've been it's been very full.
Once on the first preview, understandably full with fans.
Second on the Friday before Opening.
Third on this past Sunday, there was just a few empty seats on the sides and the back of the orchestra.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 12:39amWell the first preview and the Friday before Opening were both majorly comped.

Finally caught Oleanna at 2 today. It was empty. Like as in the orchestra was at most a 1/3 of the way full. I know it's not doing well, but still, for what's supposedly the best time of the year?
I found the whole city was empty today. I went to Macy's and a bunch of other big stores and there were very few people there. Restaurants in the theatre district weren't full. Did I just miss everyone?

Well Ragtime was pretty full tonight (the orchestra, anyways). A LOT better than the dreadful state of the mezzanine the past few week days I've been. And the lotto was a MAD HOUSE

Posted: 11/28/09 at 2:42amYes, I have to say that Manhattan felt oddly empty too - every store I went into on Friday afternoon was strangely quiet...weird!

Posted: 11/28/09 at 2:48amI think Black Friday is becoming a shadow of itself. Thanks to the advent of online shopping fewer and fewer people are making the mad rush to the stores. Why fight the crowds when you can get free shipping?

There were/ are a lot of stores that were offering online only discounts to shoppers who friended them on Facebook and Twitter prior to Black Friday, just to make thins more online focused. It wouldn't be a shocker to find out in years to come that it has gotten more focused in online shopping then anything else.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 12:16pmMy cousin has two kids who are 8 and 6. Usually she would take them to a family friendly Broadway show and being from NYC, she knows that it would be wise of her to get tickets in advance. However, she felt that they had seen all the family friendly shows that were out there already and instead took them to Wintuk. However, when she was looking at other shows for her and a friend to go to, she noticed that it wasn't as hard to do as in years past. She said that she felt that with the combo of the economy being bad and people curtailing how they spend money, that people might not be going to as many or any Broadway shows during their weekend here. Rather opting for other cheaper options of things to do around NYC.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 2:32pmDefyGravity777...I'm from Harrisburg, PA too! The stores are always insane around here! People started lining up at Toys R Us at 6pm. At one point, you had to wait in line for 2 hours just to pay for your things. Crazy.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 2:41pm^ I went into the Christmas Tree Shops at Highpoint Commons and walked right back out! The line to pay was around the store twice!

Posted: 11/28/09 at 3:03pmI actually avoided going to the city yesterday because I was afraid of what the crowds might be like. Now I wish I would've gone. The stores and malls here in Westchester were packed even at 6am (I didn't go since I hate Black Friday, but just hearing from friends).

Posted: 11/28/09 at 4:16pmHere in Chicago, the streets were full, the sidewalks were full, the stores were full and the theaters were full. I saw Addams Family Friday night and it was sold out. The scalper I talked to had four tickets left, had sold all his Jersey Boys Tickets early and had come over to help the "new kid" sell in front of Addams.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 4:30pmYesterday the orchestra at least at Finian's was pretty full. It seemed that te only empty seats were on the extreme sides. Wishful Drinking's mezz was full and the rear mezz was 3/4 full, not sure about orch.

Posted: 11/28/09 at 6:15pmI can't speak to Friday's matinees, but Ragtime was quite full on Wednesday night. A smattering of empty seats in the mezz but not many. And a very enthusiastic crowd. I feel like word of mouth is going to be more important for this show than reviews and that we'll see its audience growing. I hope so, at least. I selfishly want the chance to go back whenever I want!
