Does anyone know if any understudies have been on yet? I've seen the show a few times and would love to see a different take on Allison, Helen, etc.

I know that Gabby Pizzolo, the understudy for all three children, has definitely not gone on yet. I have not heard anything about any of the adults being out, but I do not know for sure.

Michael Cerveris misses performances so rarely -- a handful of missed performances in EVITA constitute his only absences in the last 10+ years of his career -- that it's doubtful Jim Stanek will ever go on as Bruce.

All the understudies for this show seem wonderful, and I would love to see them tackle these roles! Especially Gabby, who was incredible as Matilda.

I loved Beth Malone and Judy Kuhn but would like to see a different take on both roles. Nicole Van Giesen covers both Allison and Helen.

I totally get why there is only 1 understudy for the 3 children...but wow. That girl has to learn all those different parts and harmonies and stage directions. Major props.

Oh, man! Stanek is an exceptional performer (and a super great guy to boot)! I'd love to see him take on 'Bruce' for a night!

If anyone can do it, it's Gabby. She is an amazingly mature little girl.
I am sure we will start to see her after the Tony Awards are over...

Can Gabby really convincingly play John and Christian and have the audience believe they are seeing a young boy? Before this was announced I would have expected Gabby to understudy Sydney and have a boy understudy the two male children.

At the ages of the kids, there really isn't a lot of difference in boys and girls besides clothes.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I think it will work just fine. With the haircut they have given her for the show, she looks just like one of the boys in the show, and is young and small enough that she would not have a girly figure that would make it obvious when she was on as one of the boys.

If you look at her next to the older boy, they actually look like twins...
If Lacey Chabert (who is probably one of the most petite girly actresses that I can think of) was able to pull off playing Gavroche years ago with no one realizing she was a girl, I am sure Gabby will do just fine.

Plenty of girls have understudied Gavroche; they just had to be tall enough to climb the barricade safely.
I'm also wondering if Fun Home will eventually add more standbys just in case. That's not uncommon post-Tonys, right?
