for solely fun and upbeat then xanadu and Legally Blonde are perfect
If you're looking for a bit more depth, I would HIGHLY reccomend in the heights. It's a great, warming story, but the latin beats will have you dancing in your seat.
Hairspray is a great option too.

If you read what the people suggestimg ot wrpte you would see that we are saying that its not solely that and we're aware that's not exactly what the OP meant, and addressed that.
I mean it is fun, and most of its upbeat. Really, how can you say that the title song, no me diga, and carnival del barrio, for example are not?

the SCORE is upbeat and sometimes fun... but as a whole, I don't think the show is a fun upbeat musical. it's more of a bad soap opera on Telemundo

Definitely Hairspray or Xanadu.
Hairspray is LEAGUES better than Xanadu though.

well they are totally totally different shows. Depends what your sense of humor is and what you're in the mood for.

Not at all. They're just different.
See both HAIRSPRAY and XANADU, if you can.
skip LEGALLY BLONDE and MAMMA MIA! unless you want to see some terrible ****.

Thank you all for the replies.
Mamma Mia is actually one of my all time favourites..that's what I mean by a fun upbeat show..doesn't matter to me that the story isn't fantatsic...it's just that you walk out with a smile on your face singing the music.
I've actually seen Hairspray when it came to Toronto.
If we come to NY, I definitely will look into your suggestions of Xanadu, Legally Blonde, In the Heights.
Thanks!
