My funniest stage door moment had very little do with actually being funny, but afterwards... we had seen the Wicked tour in DC and Derrick Williams turned to smile for a picture my sister was taking while he was trying to sign someone elses stuff, and it turned out to be this TERRIBLY scary picture of him.... he definitely is anything but ugly and this picture makes me want to run and hide, it is one of those scary horror movie clown grins! I am planning on getting it signed the next time I stage door at the Gershwin :]

At the Hairspray stagedoor, me and a friend were chatting with two women who were visiting from Sweden. As John Pinette made his way down the line, one of the women asked me who he was. I said "That's John Pinette, he played Edna, the mother." Both of them suddenly got excited and loud and were saying how they didn't even recognize him. John overheard all the noise, and he looked over and said "What happened?" I said "They didn't recognize you." He said "Oh, how's this?" and looked up with the happy Edna expression on his face. The whole crowd burst into laughter. It was hilarious!

When I was at Wicked Ben Vereen came out but no one recognized him, so he went back inside. Came out again and he got a small applause. He said, "you can do better than that, let's try again." He went back inside and waited about a minute before coming back out. When he did, the crowd went WILD and he thanked us. Then when Megan Hilty came out the crowd went wild again. Ben yelled over everyone's cheers "Now that's the way it's done."
Then when I was at Spamalot the flash on my digital camera decided not to work just as I was posing for a picture with Christopher Seiber. When it did not go off, he asked to see the picture. It was very blurry so he said we'd take another one. That one was blurry as well so he took a third with me. When the flash finally worked, he just rejoiced and threw his hands into the air in triumph.

Ooh, all this talk about Patti made me want to add another.
I saw Sweeney Todd the night before Michael's birthday. I figured he would be out pretty fast, becuase he usually is. Well, I waited, and it got to be about 11:30. I said to myself "Hmm, I might actually get to wish him happy birthday ON his birthday." All of a sudden, in this fimiliar voice we all know and love you hear "I'll be down in a minute, my darlings!" We all look up, and there is Mrs. Patti LuPone with her head hanging out of her dressing room window. Everyone waves, and she waves back. Then she goes "I'm just having a drink!" and holds out a glass out the window. It was hysterical! Everyone cheered and she went back inside. I thought to myself, "wow. I'm so thrilled she's happy."

This topic is rad. When it comes to stage door stories I know about them.
Check this out. A few months ago I was st Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. For those of you who didn't see this, you missed out. It was maybe one of the greatest, most awesome, friggin' radical shows to come to the BROAD way in the past decade. (sondheim could learn a thing or two from this show with such amazing soul) For those of you who didn't see it, they had a car that flew. Apparently they did it using holograms (can somebody say tony for set design?)
So, I go the stage door because I really want to see Raoul. First,. i had to find it which took me like ten minutes. i was all like, has anyone seen the stage door for the hilton theater? of course, nobody knew because they weren't theatre buffs. anyways. i finally found it. and anyways. all the cast comes out. and they were all like, "glad you enjoyed the show" and what not. and i was like "really awesome show" i even thought about asking erin dilly out but then i remembered i think i heard she was married. finally, my boy, raoul came out. he came up to me and was like, i'll sign your playbill. and i was like "i don't have a pen." so he goes back into the stage door and comes back out with a pen (i guess he got it from the doorman) and he's like "the pen is mightier than the sword," i nearly lost it.
i have a bunch more of these. i'll post some more soon.
peace., love and harmony.

I have no idea if Traci went the same day I did, but Ben did that too. Always a show man!

Some of Ben Vereen's outrageous outfits alone merit a mention on this hilarious stage door thread, I feel. :]

Well, I made gifts for the whole cast of Wicked, so the one day I bring all my gifts, Michelle Fedhead didn't come out. So Megan says she'll give it to her so I could see her the next day, when I stage doored.
Well I saw Michelle the next day so I decided to quickly wish her a good show before she went on, so as she was walking towards she door I was like "Hey Michelle, Have a good show."
And she just kinda gave me a look and was like "..Hi.." and walked in the stage door.
..I thought it was kind of funny.. no?

Patti is fabulous.
At the Into the Woods (revival) stage door, I encountered possibly the most tactless individual on the planet. Gregg Edelman walks out and she yells "Were you the cow?" When he said, "No, I was the prince," she waved her hand dismissively and went "Oh." Then Vanessa Williams comes out and the woman goes "Oh my GAWD, you look so much BIGGER onstage!"

My first time seeing Wicked, these two British girls were all hyper and exclaimed "this is our first broadway show!" to Megan Hilty and she went "mine too!!!" and it was adorable
And then left me with absolutely no idea what to say because it was also MY first bway show, lol.

I have two one was when I saw B&TB with my 5 year old neighbor on her birthday, we went to the stage door and found out it was Peter Flynns (Lumiere) birthday too so then Brooke Tansley came out and had a long conversation with me Peter and the 5 year old then the two of them sang her happy birthday.
And the first time I saw Little Shop I saw it with my friend, the second time I saw it with my friends twin sister, so the first time Douglas Sills gave my friend a hug so the second time her twin was like you gave my sister a hug will you give me one too he looks at her and is like you sure I wasn't under the influence last time I don't usually give hugs...guess you had to be there

When i met David Hyde Pierce and we were about to take a picture my camera had run out of space on the memory card. So I asked him to turn around because i kind of had a back up camera on the other side of the crowd and he gave me the funniest look and made some wise comment about me having back up, he was so sweet and funny.
ps: i love the Hugh Jackman story, so cute.

well, I don't really know if it's very funny, but after seeing Wicked, me and my friend were waiting outside the stage door, and Megan comes out with these adorable white Chanel sunglasses with rhinestones on the sides.
So I squeal "Oh My God!!! Those glasses are the coolest things ever!"
And she squealed back to me "Oh, I know! I love sparkly things!"
So we spent a few minutes talking about Chanel sunglasses and sparkly things.
Love Megan.
And then, do you know Monseiur Marius, I believe I was a little in love with you.

I had just seen a matinee of Wicked in September 2004 and I was waiting at the stage door with my boyfriend and his cousin for Idina to come out. There were three girls with black witch hats who looked absolutely ridiculous going on and on about how great Idina was. All of the sudden Taye comes out the stage door and the girls look at each other and then start tearing down the street after him. It was too funny.

When I met Hugh Jackman my cousins and I made a sort of gag gift bag for him. Filled with random items and cute quotes for them, one was toilet seat covers and it said "To keep your booty clean for all the shakin'!" etc etc, just totally random items. We handed it to Hugh who went to open it (this was all before the show) and we all scream "NO! Open it inside, it's embarassing!" so he just laughed and said okay. Also in the bag we had a hair net which said, "to protect your beautiful locks" and cough drops to "keep his voice as sweet as cherries" along with mini toilet paper just because it was pretty damn funny...anyway, he came out after the show and when he came to us he stuck his tongue out and had the cough drop in his mouth! He said, "Thanks, darlings. But I don't think I'll be using the hair net or toilet seat cover anytime soon!" it was hilarious! We were all, including Hugh, hysterical.
