Do people still think there's a chance Lady Gaga could be attached to this? I'm not even sure if she's a good actress, but I remember some people were supporting the idea back when the project was first announced. I don't know that she'd do a Broadway show at this point of her career, and she'll probably be touring at that point, so that's probably a no-go...

I heard Lea will have to get in line just like everyone else who wants to play Fanny Brice. I heard SJB has expressed interest in playing Fanny, but I think she's too old. Lea fits the role perfectly (because she can play a teenager and an adult, which you kind of need for this role) so it wouldn't surprise me if she got it. I just wish it wasn't so predictable :/

Stephanie J Block has one character she plays and overacts like hell each time she's on a stage and that character is not Fanny Brice. Lea Michele is too whiney for the role and frankly, she's not a good enough actress to pull it off.

SJB has also played this role before. I really don't think she is perfect for this role.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I'll say it again: I can't think of anyone better suited for the role than Nicole Parker. She has the voice, the comedic chops, and the quirkiness.

Has there been any update on this list? Last I saw was an Equity principal casting call back in March in LA. They were looking for someone mid 20's to mid 30's. Does anyone know if this was just for the understudy?

I think it's funny that everyone on here is so quick to discount Lea Michele's abilities due to her success on Glee. The girl had supporting/starring roles in 5 broadway shows for over a decade. Granted there's a difference between playing a daughter in Fiddler, and Fanny Brice, but I dont think we should discredit her so quickly.

Her success on Glee has nothing to do with it. The girl can sing, and she's not a completely unfortunate actress sometimes. But she's also not nearly as wonderful an actress as she is often made out to be. I've seen her live in shows several times and have never been altogether blown away by something she's done.
