"Kristin's Francesca would involve rubbing Fabrizzio's nipples in the Octet and making funny faces in "The Joy You Feel." I'm not wrong here. "
Hilarious image, but I think you mean Clara. Francesca is from Bridges.
And I agree with everybody that would love to see her as Dolly. I could also see her in Kiss Me, Kate!
A revival of Rocky with her as Adrienne or Rocky. That would be something . I swear she could do either role. I could see her decking Apollo Creed.
Madame Armfeldt
This whole Kristin v. Kelli imagined rivalry is silly. Both ladies are enormously talented and it's great they are both Tomy winners. I do love the idea of Kristin playing a subtle role like Anna or Kelli playing an all-out comedy role like Lily.
I think Chenoweth could be a great Dolly if she works with a strong director.

I think Chenoweth has already been approached about Hello Dolly and will do it eventually. I remember reading some articles about it.

Francesca, the sister in law in PIAZZA, which Kelli played out of town. That's what I thought of when the name was mentioned. But now that you mention it, she'd be wrong for Francesca in BRIDGES, too.
I REALLY want to see her do something serious. I remember watching Into Temptation when I was going through a Cheno phase and watched everything she was in (don't judge) and being blown away by how great of an actor she was without the comedy bits. Something serious combined with music like she sings on her Let Yourself Go album.
I kind of want to hear opinions on what people would think of her doing straight plays? I love her to death, but I'm so sick of the comedy shtick.

Kristin has a fine career, she should continue whatever she plans to do concerts, movies, TV and if she wants to come and do theater fine if she wants to, in a role she is passionate about (even if it's a loud comedy or however you folks call her theater roles). She will do whatever she wants and not listen to folks trying to quarterback (for lack of a better term) her career!!

I'm generally not a Kristin fan but I like the idea of her as Sally in Follies.
Nobody is "quarterbacking" her career, ebontoyan. We are simply discussing what we would like to see her in.
She;s a sweetheart and had a lot of talent but I'm afraid she's washed up in the biz by losing this TONY.
And I could definitely see Kelli on OTTC or WICKED.

And the better off she will be...what is Broadway compared to concerts, TV, movies. She may be washed up for not winning the Tony (which I disagree) but she has a career to fall back on. I think I read somewhere she has been cast in a Disney movie. And turn your nose up in the other forms of entertainment but what pays the bill, definitely not the 8 shows a week Broadway grind!! lol lol
Actually Kristin has some clout on Broadway...she can get Broadway shows made. She has been attached to OTTC for many years and they finally got it made. Which I am glad, OTTC is my #1 show of the 2014-2015 season that I have seen 3x!!!

Kristin's a comedian, and one of the best. Her voice makes her even more of a standout.
Did Carol Channing or Lucille Ball have any notable dramatic successes?
But I guess I'll have to correct myself a little with your excellent reference to her first album. Really like the song selection. Much comedy, but also an excellent straight version of "My Funny Valentine" and others.
One of my favorite Kristin performances, on the DVD of the less than classic remake of The Music Man, is her performance of "Til There Was You" in which she steps from the dark into the spotlight and delivers a straight and sincere vocal.
Did Carol Channing or Lucille Ball have any notable dramatic successes?
I don't know about Lucy, but Carol's delivery of the monologue to her dead husband before "Before the Parade Passes By" is terribly moving. I've always thought of Carol Channing, despite her obvious wackiness and comedic chops, as a wonderful actress.
I didn't start this thread to "quarterback" her career as only a stage career. I admitted in my original post that I fully expect her TV, film, concert and recording career to take the front seat for the next several years, which is why by the time she returns she'll be in her middle-age and can take on some serious roles. I definitely think Kristin can do drama as well as comedy (not necessarily as good as it, but in addition to it...the lady is a comic genius). The role of Lilli Vanessi could be wonderful for her. I don't necessarily agree that she could do anything Kelli O'Hara can do, but certain roles (perhaps Nellie Forbush, maybe Anna Leonowens, though Francesca in Bridges is certainly a stretch dramatically, though if she sang any of those songs it would be thrilling).
FindingNamo, I don't know why you're implying that Kristin performed in On the 20th Century while lip-synching. It was crystal-clear from her performance that her vocals were alive and she was on fire when I saw her. I noticed they added Lily taking several drinks of water throughout the show, I assume to keep Chenoweth hydrated.

""Don't need to be a mind reader when it's shown clear as day right in front of you."
LOL, no. Unless each and every member of the audience told you the reason they gave a standing ovation to Kelli, you have no way of knowing this.
"
I agree with the original post. The only SO of the entire night was not for her performance in the King and I, it was to acknowledge her career up to that point.

There is no doubt that Kristin performed live when I saw her in On the Twentieth Century. Where is the rumor that she's lip-synching her performances coming from. Even if she lip-synched during her Tony performance (not sure if I believe that honestly), why would anyone think she's doing it in the show? Angela Lansbury lip-synched "Worst Pies in London" at the Tonys, did anyone doubt she was singing live during the actual show?
I also think this thread is revealing some blind animosity towards her for reasons beyond her actual performances. I think that has blinded some people and caused them to diminish what she has accomplished in OTTC. Shame.
I don't really get why people seem to be talking about being a comedian and being an actor as if they are completely different things. Chenoweth is a brilliant actress because she's such a wonderful comedian. She's a master of her art.
Turn "Blazing Saddles" into a musical and have her do the Madeline Kahn role.
Any Madeline Kahn role could be a terrific Kristin Chenoweth role. MTVMANN has made me think, if Kristin ever returned to the stage in a supporting role, and anyone ever adapted the Barbra Streisand movie What's Up Doc as a musical, she could be a terrific Madeline Kahn. Hell, that lead Barbra Streisand character could work for her now that I think of it (with rewrites, since she'd be much older than Babs was, obviously, but she and Barbra share that comedic spirit).
"Did Carol Channing or Lucille Ball have any notable dramatic successes?"
I guess I was looking at it at more of a "what I would like to see her do" more than what would be successful? I understand that things have to succeed to make them stay longer, but I would hope that most actors do work to grow rather than to see money (although I understand it's how they make a living, etc.)
I know she's a comedic genius. That's why I love her. But I also love the other side to her as well!
I thoroughly enjoy watching her.
I've always wanted to see her tackle something a little dark. I think she would be a phenomenal WITCH in Into the Woods.

What composers do you think would be able to write something that would utilize her strengths but will also be something new for her?
I always thought SHE LOVES ME, but that's in the works without her. But what about a play? Employing her comedy in a new way? Sabina in SKIN OF OUR TEETH.
