If Idina gets her ass on Broadway and starts doing more revivals or classic showtune-type shows, she could be one someday.

yeah exactly. Just because someone has been in 2 very successful shows does not make them a legend.

Well, theatredude, don't forget that we're talking about people who may become legends, not people who already are, so there's no telling what work someone may do in the future...
I would guess for future legends:
Sutton Foster
Kristen Chenowith
Norbert Leo Butz
maybe Idina Menzel
maybe Kerry Butler?

i feel like if idina had to pick between her recording career or bway she would pick recording.

...but that is just my opinion.

That shouldn't really affect whether she should be a Broadway legend or not, though.

I already consider Audra a legend, or at least she's well on her way.

I think Julia Murney has a lot of potential. As do Chenoweth, Foster, Esparza, & Ebersole

Rachel York. She certainly has the talent, charisma, and versatility. She just hasn't had that breakout starring role in a new knockout musical to get her to the next level. She needs her Edie Beale to put her on the road.

Audra Mcdonald, if you don't consider her one already

Q:What advice do you have for aspiring Broadway stars who are terminally shy? I love your work, because you seem so bold. How do you do it? A:"I think I take more chances on stage then I do in real life but you can't learn anything if you don't challenge yourself. And don't say "terminally". If you love to perform then you have no choice, just keep training and focus on the words or the music whenever you find yourself slipping back inside yourself. You're not doing anyone any favors if you withhold your talents from the world"- Idina Menzel

To me, legends are the people who, in 30-50 years, people will be looking back on them the way we look back on people like Ethel Merman or Julie Andrews.

Kristin Chenoweth
Audra McDonald
Brian Stokes Mitchell
Marin Mazzie
Sutton Foster
Sherie Rene Scott
Raul Esparza
I really feel as though in the next few years, Jenny Powers is going to rise in her popularity and success. I have high hopes for her.

I mean, Denzel Washington? Gun to my head..of course.

That shouldn't really affect whether she should be a Broadway legend or not, though.

If she continues making bunch of recordings like Barbara Streisand, then I'm sure it would.

Some of the people listed I'd honestly be surprised to see as legends in the future. Sherie Rene Scott? Julia Murney? Even Marin Mazzie, though I completely adore her, isn't really at "legend" status. I mean, we're talking about the Bernadettes and Patti LuPones of the next generation, right? Of all of the people listed, only a handful or less will go on to achieve that sort of iconic status. I would say that Audra and Christine Ebersole to some extent are (assuming they continue their musical theater careers), and Sutton Foster has the potential. It's all really a gamble, though, because you have no way of knowing the directions people's careers will take.

Sutton Foster
Kristin Chenoweth
Kelli O'Hara

I think if they all have potential to be legends in the future :) I think Kristin is the closest one to legend-status, but just not there yet!

I think Christine Ebersole will be a legend.
I think Sutton needs to get out of her cookie-cutter roles and find one that is uniquely hers. (Janet reminded me way too much of Millie. She needs to get out of that groove and into something more original.) She's got the potential.
Hate to admit it becuase she annoys me to no end, but Kristin Chenoweth will most likely be.
Brian Stokes Mitchell
Audra's there
Do we consider Bebe Neuwrith one? (I do in a way)
Norbert Leo Butz may very well in time...we'll see how he develops

Laura Michelle Kelly, if she got her ass over to Broadway
Kristin maybe, will be interesting to see how her Met debut goes

Why, hello Margaret! Yes darling, half past five. Well, everyone, simply le tout Park Avenue and la creme de Hyannis! Well, the press table's going to be awfully crowded... but if you don't mind sharing a folding chair with Harper's Bazaar... Sing? Me? Heavens no, it's Edie's day, not mine... Although people can be so insistent, and I hate to disappoint. Twist my arm, blackmail me, threaten my very life, and who knows? You might get a verse of something...
