Would love to hear from others concerning the new season of GLEE. What has happened to this show? It has become a real mess.Comments please!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling this will be its final season. Season 3 was dreadful and Season 4 is even worse. The new members of the club are uninteresting, Jane Lynch has been reduced to a bit player, and Lea Michele is overused. Rachel Berry has become the most annoying and unlikable character on prime time television.

I actually really love the new format. I'm so happy the writers didn't try to turn the show into Menudo and just recast it after characters graduate. I respect them for altering the show's whole concept and furthering the storyline of Rachel. While last night's episode hasn't lived up to the first two, I think it is a little early in Season 4 to judge the season. I think there are many exciting things that could happen. Honestly, I would have loved it anyway if they had cut out the world of McKinley altogether (or had it play an even smaller role) and just focused on Rachel's story. The New York sequences are the best parts of the new season.

TheatreKid3- IMO - the NYC stuff should be a spinoff type of show and not part of "Glee".

Despite its low ratings, Glee is still FOX's highest rated scripted drama right now, so I don't think the show will be ending after this season. Especially after The Mob Doctor flopped, FOX is most likely going to hold on to its remaining "hits" for as long as they can (i.e. Bones, Glee, etc.)

dannyboy - Rachel and Kurt have forgotten about their boyfriends pretty quickly but guess that is probably fairly normal - lol. The talent left in the "Glee" club is mediocre at best and pretty bland. I thought the character of Sue was funny the first year but now she has become tiresome. It seems Mr. Shue (Matthew Morrison) will be missing soon also and I thought his character especially Season One) was a central part of the show since it is supposed to be about a HS Glee club. Like I said in another post, I think the NYC stuff would be better as a spinoff and not part of "Glee". Finally, I think it is tough to sustain a show about kids in HS especially when the original cast leaves school.

I was in SHOCK last night when Finn showed up at Rachel's apartment when Brody was over having dinner. I can't wait to see how Finn reacts next week.
Theatre is my life. No one can take that away from me.

I assume from his hat that "TheatreKid3" and I come from different demographics, but I think the show has completely lost its focus (and identity) and is simply going off in all directions simultaneously. I could not be more bored. (And I watched SMASH!)

I actually like this season so far but anything was good medicine for the third season that even the two last episodes could not save in the mess the writers got characters into. Even the Britney episode- which really made no sense to bring up again even if you could understand the character of Brittany being 'depressed'- still had stuff to like about it (it was like a bizarro version of the original Britney episode where Brittany was the only good part). Maybe it is because the songs do feel closer to being connected to plot points and characters than iTunes charts. They've also successfully, in my opinion, made Blaine become his own person than a cypher of Kurt thus far.
I agree the NYC parts really brought a much needed energy to the show and it does not help that some of the new kids, who I actually do like for the most part, feel like they're treading the same waters as the McKinley grads did in previous seasons. I hope Kurt stays in the fashion world and that the writers do not cave into characters returning to square one (which they're arguably done with other characters within the HS settings). That and I am pro-breakup for all of the couples so I am not going to explode with what happens next episode, except I am looking forward to "Don't Speak".
My theory is the writers experimented with the separation to see what worked, the McKinley high setting with new faces and giving more time to the supporting players or the same characters in a new setting. Clearly the latter worked or rather, is working better and maybe it gets its own show but the writers and Fox thought it was too risky (and uprooting a whole TV operation to another coast can be costly).

I don't dislike the New York scenes and I don't share in the Lea Michelle hatred here.
I just feel like I'm channel flipping when the show jump-cuts from a New York loft to a Lima student election and back again.
Getting Kurt into fashion makes sense, but they are already ripping off GREASE (interim principal with the assistant with the mini-xylophone) and ALL THAT JAZZ (Rachel's entire "NYADA" number with the table and fog last week was almost a shot-for-shot repeat of "Fly Me" from ALL THAT JAZZ).
So now they're going to rerun UGLY BETTY? Isn't it a little soon?

The Grease stuff is a thing they've done before that was done in homage. The first time, I forget if it was second or third season, was word for word from the film.
TV Guide channel seemed to have a hold on Ugly Betty re-runs for the last couple of years. Not sure if they still show it.

I saw the first 2 episodes and honestly don't care that it's against Grey's Anatomy anymore. I'm not into Rachel or Kurt in New York. And the high school kids aren't that interesting. Well, I still like Brittany. But, I miss Santana, Quinn, and Puck. It really should have ended after last year's graduation.

The first half of the first season was actually great. A perfect example of a great idea that lost it's way and has gone on way too long.

You knew I was speaking metaphorically, didn't you? I know Murphy isn't going to literally rerun episodes of UGLY BETTY, but that doesn't mean he won't use it as a template. He steals from everything else.
And the GREASE mini-xylophone bit wasn't funny when the late, great Dodi Goodman did it. It's not fair to expect it will get better when that young girl tries it.

Yeesh, it spoke more to Sue Sylvester being the school's Eve Arden in Grease. Homage is not really done for one-upsmanship though Murphy himself may think it is at times.
And the fact that Ugly Betty and Glee have been compared and contrasted is not exactly new ground.

Also this show is just dreadful now. I don't care anything about the happening of Lima anymore. SJP was brought in to be the counter to Cassandra July and she's so sickeningly sweet that it's more than boring. Everything that's happening at Vogue.com is so unbelievable that it doesn't even fit into the realm of possibility.

I agree that the Vogue stuff is, yes even for Glee, just too farfetched. That said *ducks* i kinda like the New York stuff--at least it feels kinda new for the show--it's much more interesting than what's going on back in Ohio.

Have you noticed that all the graduates have career trajectories that blatantly pander to preteen girls now? Barely months after graduating high school, we have the makings of a Soldier, a Broadway Dancer, a Fashion Editor, a Cheerleader, and a Recording Artist. All we need is for Quinn to announce she's becoming a Princess and for Puck to get accepted to Astronaut school and we'll have covered every single career on Barbie's resume.

hyperbole_and a_half - LOL, that is so funny. It is so unrealistic especially when you never saw Rachel really dance except for "Glee" club numbers. She never mentioned taking dance classes and you always assumed all she cared about was being the next "Streisand" not a dancer. Brittany is the best dancer in the show now and Rachel was never close in ability.What are the odds of getting a job like Kurt did with just a HS diploma - lol?

Rachel has been seen taking dance in a few episodes - most notably during the performance of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" with Jonathan Groff.
I like what's happened so far, but I feel like the melodrama of this upcoming episode will just drag the show back to its usual shtick and put Finn and Rachel front and center fighting and bickering like morons.
