Telecharge is now selling tickets to GOD OF CARNAGE through February 28th, 2010. The original cast plays their final performance November 14th, with four new actors taking over November 16th.
I guess the producers were able to line up suitable replacements after all.

I remember reading a passing mention in a Variety article that God of Carnage has recouped. They just didn't bother with a press release.
Anyone want to toss around replacement casting ideas? I think Elizabeth Marvel would be a great Veronica (Marcia Gay Harden's role).

Posted: 8/15/09 at 6:36pm^ That actually makes more sense. It is kind of strange though, usually producers LOVE putting together these press releases when their show recoups.

Actually I misremembered (channeling my inner Roger Clemens with that word). The article was in the Times:

Alec Baldwin as Alan is perfect.

Posted: 8/15/09 at 6:51pmWell according to Telecharge, the original cast is guarenteed to be there until November 14th because that was when it was suppose to close. They aren't going to be it as the original cast from November 16th on because they don't know if any of the actors will extend. Who know, maybe they all will or some of them will. It only says to be determined which doesn't mean they are getting a full new cast.

wdwfreak, when the initial extension through November was announced, it was reported (I believe in The Times?) that the show would only continue past then if the producers were able to find a new cast.
I'm sure the current four all have film and television projects that would keep them from staying any later than they already are.

I think Alec Baldwin would be perfect for the play (although I have only read it and not seen it). I would just wonder how it would work around filming 30 Rock.
A little off-topic, but in the translation I read, they had French names like Michel, Veronique, and Alain. The funny thing was that I wished they had translated the names. After reading this thread, I was happy that they used American names for this production. I know, nobody cares...

Posted: 8/15/09 at 7:08pm30 Rock shoots at Silver Cup in Queens so he's in the area, but of course production schedules for TV shows aren't exactly 9-5 scenarios.

Oooh, it should be interesting to see the four replacements.
I'm going to see the show for the second time in October...and will return once the new cast takes over.

Huh? That makes no sense at all. In fact, it could be just the opposite: since A STEADY RAIN will be totally sold out, last-minute optimists and disappointed cancellation-line people might gravitate to the hit show next door.

Posted: 8/15/09 at 11:41pmI meant that A Steady Rain will be the hot ticket, and the thing that gets the word of mouth. Tourists will probably be willing to pay premium ticket prices for Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman. God of Carnage could very well suffer from being right between Steady Rain and Oleanna with Julia Stiles. Also, people who don't see Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman might gravitate to the hit show across the street (Billy Elliot). I am not saying that it's not a definite thing, but just that I wouldn't be surprised if God of Carnage attendance % decreased after the opening

I don't see that happening...obviously ticket sales for CARNAGE are great, otherwise the producers wouldn't have made the effort to recast it and extend it for a third time.
Plus, no one knows who Julia Stiles is. She's not exactly a box office draw.
I don't think it's gonna be "either or" with RAIN and CARNAGE. CARNAGE is already a hit and obviously is doing very well what with the new extension/cast coming and RAIN will be successful as well because of its two celebrity stars. I don't see RAIN taking away any of CARNAGE's business...they'll both be wildly successful in the coming months, I'm sure.

"Plus, no one knows who Julia Stiles is."
I doubt that. She's steadily worked in film for a while (well over a decade) and has been in many successful films. If anything, people will remember her from The Bourne movies and 10 Things I Hate About You (not exactly a film classic, but it gets her recognition). There was a big "to do" when she did Twelfth Night a few years back (unsuccessfully, if I remember). She's a draw. Not a big one, but people definitely know who she is.

I know it won't happen but I really do think Donna Murphy would make a great Annette as would Jennifer Jason Leigh.
I also think Edie Falco would be a funny Veronica.

Has anyone done the standing room wait lately? I'm considering going into the city tonight but I probably won't be able to get to the box office until 6:30 p.m. Would I be wasting my time and resources?
Once I went and tried to do it but the lady told me to come back at about 7 p.m., although that contradicts the Playbill rush/sro policy information. I ended up getting a rush ticket to "Exit the King" that night instead, and thankfully so.

Frogs, that's right I forgot about that.
Tonight I went and the show was very good. It's not the best play I've ever seen, but it definitely has its place on the shelf, and considering its short run time it packs a wallop. Marcia Gay Harden truly deserved a Tony. She and Hope Davis were absolutely charming and egoless at the stage door.
Gandolfini was accomodating but kind of a prick, and his tremendous autograph went over Harden's. Jeff Daniels was more pleasant, but his autograph ran over Davis'. Perhaps a psychological need to dominate their female counterparts?

I personally would love to see Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum, Cynthia Nixon, and Julie White.
I know for a fact that two of these actors have been in talks.
