Give me a revival of Pippin over this show anyday.
Gypsy9, didn't the Berlin estate sell its half in July?

Speaking of recordings, my favorite recording of the show is the 1993 London studio recording with John Barrowman and Ruthie Henshall.

I certainly wouldn't mind seein this
Im very excited for this. I saw this show at the PaperMill last october and it was directed by Daniel Goldstien who is directing the broadway version. I thought Daniel did an amazing job. The cast was excellent. Part of me hopes they bring back the cast I saw at the PaperMill! Good Luck to Godspell!!
I really like Godspell's score...this is pretty exciting.
I feel like Jonathan Groff is going to be rumored for this... but I don't actually think he'll be in it.
There. I just started the rumor myself, I think.
What's with all the Stephen Schwartz? Didn't they recently announce Children of Eden was coming to Broadway in the near future? I get it Wicked's a hot property but is it really necessary to bring back his older less successful shows? Let them stay in High Schools and community theaters where they belong. If you want to cash in on the popularity of Wicked mount National Tours. There is no need for large scale Broadway revivals.
Wow well they thought a tour and a london Revival of this show would be a great idea here in the UK.
We had the tour at the theatre i work a few weeks ago (a 2000 capacity theatre) and it was dated, slow and lost on a stage that size,oh and only sold 300 tickets a night
The reviews were awful saying that Godspell had lost its magic and did not need dragging out again and they were right.
1 week later the lead Stephen Gately jumped ship and the tour decided to close and cancel its London opening.
Off topic but:
songanddanceman2 - I also don't think Joseph...Dreamcoat EVER needs a major Broadway revival. Have you seen the West End revival? Was a revival warranted or was it just produced for the sake of the TV show?
NO the joseph revival was not warranted
Joseph had played in London only a few years before and not done very well. The show tours the UK constantly (like goes back to same theatres year in and year out). And the show which is now in London is just a mixture of the tour and the Palladium production. Its a poor production and offers nothing new.
InfiniteTheatreFrenzy: I stand corrected about the co-ownership of the Music Box. I hadn't read that Playbill article. I see that it is now 100% owned by the Shuberts, and so would be a possibility for GODSPELL.

Anybody who saw it at PaperMill...What was so good about this particular revival? And why are hey letting Chris Gattelli choreograph it?
Tch. Except for the people who embarrassingly love Joseph so much that they can't help but see it every time they're in London.
Not that I know anyone like that. Uh.
My friends were in production of this over summer, I went and the music was good, but the story was so muddled with 70's influences, it was hard to keep it straight.
Plus the random actions of the performers was also jarring: Into the audience, back on the stage.. just an odd show.
My friend flipped when I told him this was going to be revived.
I'm not thrilled.
I didn't enjoy it very much.
The music was great though.
Well, It's Stephen Schwartz!
I'm a Stephen Schwartz whore. =)
I saw it at the PaperMill and what I thought was so special about it was the cast...They were all so amazing...some of them are on Broadway now or were on Broadway...Some of the cast members were Robin De Jesus (RENT, Into the Heights) Anika Larsen (RENT, Zanna Don't) Telly Leung (WICKED, RENT) Julie Reiber (BKLYN: The Musical, WICKED) and Kasey Marino (Hairspray)...What I also liked about it was there was practically no scenery, everything was really bare...all they had was 2 pieces of Scafolding and 2 ladders...They all just seemed to be having a great time with this piece...I hope that they will bring some of the cast to broadway...Most likely won't happen but its nice to dream...lol...They also updated the book alittle bit, like i remember they had a Nicole Richie joke in there...Overall I thought it was a great performance of Godspell and I thought Daniel did a great job with it!
~I put a link on the bottom...click on it and it will take you to the Godspell page for the PaperMill Playhouse...There you can also see a clip of the show!~
Here is the link...sorry I forgot to post it

I love Julie Reiber, Playhouse.
I saw her as Ed/Natalie in All Shook Up.
I think she's fantastic.
If she was in Godspell come 2008, I'd be there.
Yea she was amazing...she stole the show...her big number was Turn Back O Man and she did an amazing job with that...And her comedic timing was amazing.
"Yea she was amazing...she stole the show...her big number was Turn Back O Man and she did an amazing job with that...And her comedic timing was amazing "
Her comedic timing is wonderful!
In All Shook Up, despite my disapointment not seeing Jenn, I loved her.
She was such a wonderful Natalie/ED
Her "Fools Fall In Love" was incredible.
Right up there with Jenn.
"Turn Back O Man" is one of the best songs in that show.
I watched the clip. I really like the set. It has the elements of the original with some really great new additions. I wasn't too crazy about the choreography though.
And just for fun, here's a really great GODSPELL fansite:
http://www.godspellpage.com
There's photos from the original production and the regional one's in D.C., Chicago and even the Toronto production with Victor Garber, Gilda Radner, Martin Short and Eugene Levy.
yea the choreography wasn't that spectacular...it was nice and it served its purpose but it was kind of high schoolish.
Yeah, PlayhouseBeauty. That's what I felt.
@ DMsquared2 who was interested in the "controversy": The plot thickens. Harlem producer has backed out of the Godspell Wars because he's tired of the bull****. On investigation, it was found that, through intermediaries and licensing agents, Schwartz has given "exclusive" Godspell rights to five or six different groups, and after a few licensors tried to cut Harlem producer a back room deal, he said "Thanks, I'm out."
Still interesting to see how this will shape up, as now more parties are at the dinner table.
InfiniteTheaterFrenzy totally stole my line! I was going to say that the Groff rumors would start immediately. If we're going off of the movie version of "Godspell", ain't no one on Broadway right now more young-Victor-Garber-esque then dear sweet Groff...
