If we're going to feel bad for everyone who has lost a job, we are going to be feeling bad for a really long time...and there are probably people out there who have come across harder times than the actors in the Broadway production of Grease...but then again, I can't say for sure.
I don't think it's really necessary to lose our heads because someone is happy that a show is closing, while someone is not. We didn't actually have think that Grease would be around forever, did we?
(I like my use of the royal "we")
What's next, CATS? (Oh wait -- that's right...)
But seriously, this is dire, certainly unprecedented in my lifetime. I've been through periods when fewer shows opened in a given season, but this is a massive death, hundres of jobs, thousands, gone.
"and the actor's know that the possibility of their show closing is ALWAYS "out there""
Shows closing is not a "possibility". Every show closes .. someday even Phantom will close. Shows closing is a reality .. its just a matter of how long it will run, but every show will close one day.

Wow. Where to begin. This is directed to all of you haters out there. Again, Avenue Q is NOT CLOSING, and has posted no notice to the contrary. Rumor mongers abound, keep wishing if you must. Second, all of you people who are "happy" that Grease is closing, you wouldn't feel the same if you or someone you know was in the show. That argument of actors being in this field of "instability" is nonsense. Every field is a gamble you dumbass. Broadway is no different. And third, there aren't many new shows coming to Broadway besides Vanities, West Side Story, Nine to Five, and Guys and Dolls. Most of which have been cast already, some of which have reduced their cast numbers due to the economy. After that, others may close. Why don't you people realize its bad for ANY shows to close, especially now with what's going on in the world. Broadway is one of the few things left that represent a true American art form. Even shows that you don't care for, still put people to work, and as long as there is a demand, they will play. No one thinks Mamma Mia is a good musical, but people love it, so its wonderful those actors have a job. I'm just amazed anyone would be glad a show closes because they dislike it. It's not about you or your opinion. Think of the greater good, specifically people who chose this career to entertain such unappreciative and opinionated cows such as yourselves. Hope that karma train works out for you.
Funniest. Post. Ever.
Every show closes
*koff* Mousetrap *ahem*
Personally, I'm going to be fascinated to see the Playbill broadway Yearbook volumes 5&6, particularly lying them face down, side-by-side, to see the insane differences in what's been on Broadway. It's going to be astonishing.
Assuming the recession doesn't kill Broadway or Playbill all together...
great cast but what a bad revial of the musical.
i feel bad for the cast losing their jobs just like other shows.
I respect everyone's different opinions about this show (and all shows in general.) That's why I think sites like this are great for everyone to be able to express and show their love of the theater. (Boy that sounds really sappy...but its true!)
Not every show is great. I love traditional theater (shows like Gypsy and South Pacific), Disney theater (self explainatory), straight plays and those shows that are not meant to make Broadway history but are there if you just want to go have a good time (Xanadu and Legally Blonde come to mind.) So I love seeing all kinds of theater and can appreciate it for what it is.
I like Grease. This production wasn't my favorite but I thought some members of the cast were terrific and I wish them all the luck finding new jobs.
I think we can all agree that no one wants to see anyone lose their jobs. But we all know shows come to a close at some point (unless apparently you are Phantom of the Opera.) I'm more concerned about what all these closings mean for Broadway. I hope people, if they can, will still treat themselves to a show to keep this part of the economy going.
Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Looking forward to the new stuff coming!!!!
