Amazing that people are happy about others unemployment.
But in this economy, which is predicted to get worse before it gets better, will "something else hopefully better" sell?
I really wouldn't be surprised to hear that some shows due in next year will be postponed.
I'm not happy for the unemployment of the cast and crew...I'm happy the show itself is gone. It's a terrible production.

I'm sad when almost every show closes.
But Grease is just a BAD show.
That should of closed months ago!
Should have.
Not of.
Dammit.
i'm just wondering if all the people that are elated that this show is closing are actually getting something out of it?
don't get me wrong i felt this production of GREASE left a lot to be desired but that's just my opinion.
why carry on like it's something to celebrate?

This board hated Grease from the first. People have been talking about it closing since it opened. Sad, very sad.

"Amazing that people are happy about others unemployment."
I get irritated with this kind of rationalization regarding the closing of a Broadway show. Yes, it is sad that these individuals will be uemployed. However, they CHOSE a field that is KNOWN for its instability as far a job prospects go. They are not guaranteed job security...even when the show is a hit like Wicked. There is always a price to pay to do what you love doing. Whether it be long hours at the office...months on the road...an unemployment rate of over 90% in your chosen profession. If you work on Broadway, you shouldn't be planning to be constantly employed, and should always be prepared when for the times you aren't.
Another one bites the dust
Although I had no desire to see it, I wish the cast good luck with their next show.

Fosse76: I understand very well the risks of having chosen this profession.
It was not a rationalization, which is an attempt to explain one's behavior, it is an observation at people who, no matter what show is closing, seem to take great joy in the event.
Everyone in the world wants to make some plans. It goes along with looking at your future and hoping you have one, regardless of your profession.
Once again, another thread of mine gets deleted because it wasn't official until a couple of hours after I posted.

I, for one, couldn't stop crying once I heard the news. Actually, I've been crying since 1929 when the original production of Show Boat closed. All those dead people are STILL out of work!

For a show coolkid hates, he sure posts like he loves it.
I know that White Christmas is only a limited engagement, but it's closing on January 4th as well. Times Square is going to seem so much slower the week of the 5th-11th.
What about shows closing in January in general? Aren't there more than those five closing?

There are more then 5 closing on the 4th alone.
To the many people saying that they are happy Grease is closing...shame on you. How can it be a good/positive thing that these hard-working performers will be out of jobs? Despite your personal opinions on the show may be, I think it is a terrible thing to wish a show to close.
This is something like a deathrow watch
One by one the prisoners are taken & executed. I wonder which one is next. There are going to be a ton of empty theaters before everything settles down
Maybe this will start to put a damper on yearly price increases. This is a wake up call or should be for poducers & theater owners.

How can you say this with a username of "Wicked Rocks".
Wicked is a GOOD production of a NOT so great show. Grease is a BAD production of a NOT so great show.
this has to be a record! have this many shows closed all on the same day before??
I saw the original Grease.
It was & still is a mindless piece of fluff - entertaining & nothing more . It is not worthy of a revival every 5 years or so.
Did not think much of Wicked @ all.
the version of GREASE that's now playing on Broadway bears little resemblance to the original stage production that premiered in 1972.
To those asking things like how can it be a good thing that these performers will be out of jobs?
My only answer is that while I do feel bad for anyone out of a job right now, (a) they knew what this job was like before they signed up for, but more importantly (b) it is a good thing because in my opinion the travesty that was Grease was not at all indicitive of what Broadway is really like. It represented the worst things of Broadway (overdone show, reality casting, horrible sets, insipid choreography, etc.) and for that reason alone I am happy to see it close. Some people only see one Broadway show in their entire lives. And although many shows are representative of the truly splendid nature of the Great White Way, if it had been this lackluster production of Grease, I would truly feel sorry for that person. Just my thoughts on the issue.
