Officially.
To be released in August.
"The recording will boast songs cut from the original Broadway production of Gypsy: "Three Wishes for Christmas," "Momma's Talking Soft," "Nice She Ain't," "This Is Mother's Day," "Smile Girls," "Who Needs Him?," and an alternate version of "This Is Mother's Day," all featuring new orchestrations penned by Jonathan Tunick."

Yes! I can't wait for a *cough*professional*cough* recording of this score. YES!
I've heard MAMA'S TALKING SOFT and NICE SHE AIN'T, have the other cut songs been recorded before?
This is great. I wonder if it will end up being 2 discs? I assume they will record quite a bit of dialogue too. And finally we will get the SOME PEOPLE Reprise recorded. And I hope they record the finale.
As far as I know, it will be one disc and whatever is left that can't fit on the disc will be available to download off of itunes.

THe Some People Reprise is on the Peters!Gypsy Recording...
No it's not.
That's the SMALL WORLD Reprise. Which isn't in this production.
The SOME PEOPLE Reprise is also known as "Traveling."

"Who Needs Him?" is the most exciting extra.
It's the song that Sondheim and Styne wrote for Rose to sing when Herbie walks out. But they quickly realized that Merman didn't need an angry/sad torch song midway through the second act, when she was going to explode with "Rose's Turn" a little later. It just held up the pace, so they put in the little reprise of "Small World" and let the show move on to the strip scenes.
So no one ever heard Merman sing it. (I once heard Sondheim sing it, in a classroom setting.) But it will be thrilling to hear Patti sing it!
I can not wait to have this recording in hand. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it somehow becomes available before August.
I LOVE cut songs!!!!!! Yay!

The reason NICE SHE AIN'T was cut from the original production is that Jack Klugman refused to do it as he did not consider his voice good enough to do a solo. It will be great if it is now going to be available. Will Boyd Gaines be doing it?

There's another argument for Blu-ray disc audio (BDA). Not only would everything be on the disc, but in High Definition audio (you could choose between True HD audio or Uncompressed PCM) and in 5:1 or even 7:1 instead of just stereo.
Sorry for the pitch, but the sooner the Blu-ray becomes the standard, the better in my book.

cry baby need to get in the recording booth today
It's great news, but I have to wait till AUGUST? Come on!
August???
Why must we wait so long? Can't they rush it through so it at least comes out in early July? You know, to strike while the iron (or Patti's Tony buzz) is hot...?
Either way, it's gonna be a looooonnnnnnnggggggg summer for me...
Finally! And now the anxious await for its release begins!
