Wow, thats awesome. She's an amazing actress and singer.. What? ACTRESSES playing the part?:) (I'm so kidding, wicked fans, don't throw stuff at me. Its early, I'm testy!) But go Ana!~

And I sort of think at this point that the Wicked name alone is enough to sell the show. Its not like Shoshana is a huge name:)

A note about opinions.

I do respect your right to HAVE an opinion. That doesn't mean I have to actually respect the specific opinion. If someone said, 'I think Ashlee Simpson is an infinitely better singer than Judy Garland,' I would completely respect your right to say that and believe if fully. I would also think you're a complete idiot.

Not that I think you're an idiot about not wanting to see Gasteyer (I don't know if I'd want to see her myself). Just making a point, in general, about opinions.

With the most glorious example. Everyone KNOWS that Ashlee is miles better than Judy re: Gasteyer in 'Wicked' Chicago sitdown.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Hehe. Oh honey, haven't you learned that trying to get people to respect other peoples opinions around here is a pointless battle?:) I gave up on that LONG ago.:) Hugs!

I wouldn't be prejudiced against cast members from SNL. There are cast members on the show *now* who were brilliant comedians and singers when they were on stage in Chicago, but no one would know it with the material they're handed on SNL. I have a feeling Gasteyer will be fine. Anyway, SNL is produced for the 12-17 demographic and aren't teenage girls the big audience for this show anyway? Sorry I don't much about it. Seeing it in Chicago in May.

To go back to this "name" issue, who out there is a bigger name than Ana Gasteyer to play Elphaba in a sit-down Chicago run? Honestly, Gasteyer is the biggest name you're going to get, and I believe that she was in Chicago with Second City, so she may be more well-known in Chicago. Hearing her name wanted me to buy tickets. Isn't that what a "name" is supposed to do?

Well, Donny Osmond played "Joseph" here for over a year. I wonder if they talked to him. Under that green make up, Elphaba could be almost anyone. I guess I'm heart broken because I was hoping for either Oprah or Billy Corrigan.

How about Harvey Fierstein?

I thought Harvey was already signed to play Madame Morrible?

He'd make a better Elphaba.

Gasteyer wasn't with Second City. She was with the Groundlings.

Yeah, I am unaware of her Chicago career. Anyone recall her in anything?

She did, however, go to Northwestern and is good friends with Urinetown's Spencer Kayden.

Not sure how much theatre she did in Chicago.

Personally, get me Karmine Alers and Angela Christian and you have a DYNAMIC duo! I'd love to see them do it!

hmm I don't like the Gasteyer idea. I would still see her in the role, but she's not my first choice to play Elphaba. I would rather have a legit broadway performer, instead of a big name.

Wow. I would love to see Ana Gasteyer as Elphaba. Ana is a great singer. And hilarious as hell!

I'm curious why they'd do this. Why wouldn't they want Stephanie to play Elphaba in Chicago? And why do they feel that they need a 'name'? (although I disagree that Ana fits that bill) The entire run in Toronto sold out easily without a so-called 'name'. Very weird.

Ana is an amazing singer and actress. Good for her if she gets it. re: Gasteyer in 'Wicked' Chicago sitdown She really deserves it.

erinrebecca - This isn't for the tour (which Stephanie will be doing in Chicago) - this is for a separate sitdown (not-touring) production that might be coming to Chicago after the tour leaves.

I like the idea of Ana Gasteyer. There's a good chance I would go see it again for her.

I dont really see Ana Gasteyer as Elphaba, but good for her for pursuing theatrical roles.

Something that everyone is seeming to forget that Idina wasnt a big name really, at the begging of the run. I dont think it matters if its a big name or not.

Will she be on the HAIR cd?

I think Ana Gasteyer is HILARIOUS. I'd rather see her in a funnier role...but I've never heard her sing. If she can sing that part and be taken seriously...then I'd kill to see her.

Ana as Elphaba?
Based on her comedic experience, wouldn't she be a better Glinda?

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Even when I heard her sing at Hair, I couldn't help but hear it as a "comic" voice. It would be somewhat interesting, though. Although I can't see her correctly playing the role. I very highly doubt this is going to happen.

comma, thanks. I hadn't heard of this sitdown production. Is this just rumor at this point? Or has the Chicago sitdown been announced?
