Reading about the recent problems Sam Shepherd was having with the production of "True West" made me wonder...
What productions COULD/WOULD handle a gender reversal with little or no problems. For example, would The Producers work if the leads were female?
Any thoughts?

I've always thought a role reversal (not in drag mind you) of THE WOMEN would be hilarious :)
Producers: Whoopie as Maxine?
I would love to see Captin Hook as a woman.
Rosie would make a great Captin Hook in a revival of Peter Pan.
Pippin- A woman on the right track? I would love to see that role reversed. Easy baby your on the right track.
The woman (dependable and reliable could become a man)
LYRICS:
(Every so often a Dame has a day she truly can call hers well here i am to seize my day if someone will just tell when the hell it is.)
Whoopie is already a Producer of Millie, ha ha. A good Maxine would be Chita Rivera.

Make that Rita Moreno- ha!
Gerard would have a field day but Maxine could be Chita and Rita Moreno could be Leona Blume.
Chita and Rita.

i suppose you could change millie....it'd be funny...jane instead of jimmy and...millie...i don't know what, but still...actually, maybe that wouldn't work so well, but...
Not exactly a lead, but, the narrator in "Into the Woods" could easily be a woman.
I think THE PRODUCERS would be hilarious with Maxine Bialystock & Lea Bloom. Can you imagine LITTLE OLD MAN LAND???!!! Hahahahaha....! And Ulla (or maybe Jean Luke) could be some big muscle man who strips for them during, "If You Got It, Flaunt it". But Roger Debris and Carmen need to stay the same. It's just too funny. Obviously, A Funny Thing Happened/Fourm... works. H2$ would work. I think PROOF would work with a man being the mathematical genius and a woman looking over his mother's books. Umm... GYPSY needs to be done with a man in drag....Perhaps it already has, but it's just such a natural role for a female impersonator. After all no one makes a better woman than a man in drag...hehe. I saw a High School production of "Into The Woods" where the Narrator was female, and she was brilliant. It worked out quite nicely.
I also think the Producers could be a riot if some of the genders were reversed. Whoopie as Maxine is a fabulous idea---I think they should do it!
a female production of the producers would be funny, how about jackie hoffman as the leo bloom part and mary testa was max.

Eddie please put the other picture back!
It did wonders for me.
In Into The Woods the Princes could become Princessess and the Witch could become a Warlock.
"Having Our Say" would actually be in repertory with "'Night Mother".
True tours de force!

Corine, did you know that in the revival of INTO THE WOODS Billy Porter WAS being considered as a Warlock?
ZANNA DON'T with Rosie O'Donnell as the lead
I saw a teen/children's production of Into the Woods with the Narrator as a mother goose like character telling stories to children.
A theater in Dallas, back in the late 80's/early 90's, got in trouble with, I believe with MTI, by having a man play Reno in Anything Goes. Remember, " I'm the bottom, you're the top." I'm sure it was hilarious!
