General Rush for Jerusalem and The Normal Heart

I am visiting NYC next weekend and saw general rush available for these two shows. Any information would be greatly appreciated, but my 2 big questions are (1)is 9:30 early enough to arrive for a box office that opens at 10:00? and (2) will you get anything but the worst seats? Playbill discounts and TKTS are other options, for sure so I am contemplating the give and take for these.

I'm pretty sure The Normal Heart rush is notoriously easy. People have walked up 10 minutes before curtain and gotten tickets.

From what I hear normal heart has rush up untill showtime,
They also have rear mezz at $26.50 (rush is $36.50)
I've heard those rush seats have sometimes been orchestra and sometimes rear mezz
I think you;d be fine for normal heart
If you buy the $26.50's you could prob move up bc I hear it hasn't been selling

Jerualsem is weird
$26.50 boxes when they open
then $36.50 seats 2 hours before or something like that
maybe someone else can help with Jerusalem since im not too sure how they are working it
I remember when August was there they told me rush was sold out If I didn't get there within a half hour of them opening even when they had half the mezz left

Jerusalem sells the box seats (about 16 tickets) for $26.50 when the box office opens. Then, subject to availability, additional rush tickets are sold two hours prior to curtain for $36.50. I haven't done the rush, so I cannot comment on seating locations.

The rush tickets for "The Normal Heart" have been harder to get as the run has progressed, at least on the weekend. -However, getting in line by 9:30 should be OK since you can get tickets for either the matinee or evening performance. They have an allotment of rush tickets they sell starting at 10:00. If all of those get sold, then there might be another batch released at 6:00 or 7:00 (for the evening performance). The box office staff has been pretty good about passing on that information to anyone who asks.

The rush tickets tend to be on the sides and to the rear in the orchestra, but even with a seat on the side aisle, you're really not missing any of the staging since The Golden is a relatively small house. Also note that the last row of the orchestra is raised, and is a great place to sit if you don't want to deal with anyone's head in front of you. *I know two people who ended up with great center orchestra seats via the rush - I'm guessing they were cancellations. The box office staff has also been good about showing you your seat location before you complete the sale if there's not too many people in line.

As for "Jerusalem", the lines for the weekend rush have been getting there pretty early. The additional rush tickets sold two hours before the performance are part of the allotment that went over to TKTS (and then were sent back to the box office).

For the Jerusalem rush, would 9am be early enough to get the $26.50 box seats for a Wednesday matinee?

I went to Jerusalem last night at 7 for the 36.50 rush tickets and there were none available. The B.O. employee told me there had been a line starting at 5 for the tickets that they started selling at 6. They were gone within 15 minutes.

I went back at 7:50 to see if they would sell any more (since the show was not sold out), but the B.O. employee said they are only allowed to sell a certain number, it isn't about filling the house.

I read on playbill.com that normal heart only sells the rush tickets 2 hours prior to curtain. Is this true and if so when do people usually get there?

I was picking up my TDF tickets for The Normal Heart at 6:00 on Saturday night, and the box office attendant told several people in front of me that they had no rush tickets for the evening performance. It also wasn't up on TKTS that night. I'm not sure if this was just because it was a Saturday or a post-Tony boost, so I don't know if this is indicative of all performances.

Hmmm...sounds like I should see "Normal Heart" the Thursday I arrive. I've had good luck on that night with tough shows previously.

I was at Nromal Heart for the 2nd time on Friday & the entire house was sold out as per the sign on the door. So, I wouldn't count on that one being as easy post-Tony boost.

Just get the $26.50 rear mezz seats. The rush for Normal Heart is all but non-existent at this point.

I used this blogger for my rush questions! I saw Jerusalem and went an hour before (edit) the box office opened (so 9AM) I was 10th in line. I also think the first two ppl in line now get a tshirt for free.

You can't just walk up for Jerusalem anymore- especially not on a weekend. The last people have been getting there at 9:40 at the latest, and that was pre-Tonys. I think they're getting a Rylance win bump as well.

THE NORMAL HEART changed its RUSH policy a few weeks back to TWO HOURS BEFORE the performance, SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY. After the Tony win, rush tickets were NOT available for any show last week except Sunday night. The show would naturally rather sell as many tickets at TKTS for half-price rather than let them go for the $36.50 rush price. Sunday night remains the best time for rush. The $26.50 (last two rows mezzanine) seats are almost totally gone thru the end of the run. There might still be some seats on the next two Thursdays (June 23 & 30) at $30 for those 'under thirty.' If you can't afford $116.50, politely ask the box office if there are any discounts available and you'll probably end up with a $116.50 seat for $75. The Golden's a pretty small house and all the seats are good. Closes July 10th.

Not necessarily. Several people in front of me on Saturday night easily bought rear mezzanine tickets for future dates. I wouldn't rule out trying to pick up those tickets.

I haven't seen this mentioned on the boards, so I wanted to add: The last time I rushed JERUSALEM (a couple weeks ago), they sold the $26.50 tickets when the box office opened, then when those ran out, they moved right on to the $36.50 tickets and sold a bunch of those to the people in line. At a certain point (three people before me!) they said they were out for now, but more $36.50 tickets would go on sale 2 hours before the show.

Out of curiosity, where are they selling the front row now? I got rush back during previews and was in the front row but since then, they've made rush be the boxes. I haven't seen AA show up on Telecharge so I was wondering if it's at TKTS or TDF, etc.

I've been checking daily for the rear mezz seats and there are some still available toawrds the end of the run...i.e. when I'm there, If I noticed them disappearing, I'll buy in advance...otherwise, will try when I'm there.

Actually, 2 friends and I did that, the box office wouldn't honor a discount that was shown on a phone, and we ended up paying $116.50. This was last Tuesday. They were at 99% capacity last week, and there was a cancellation line on multiple nights. They're not going to offer you discounts just because you asked politely when people are willing to pay full price.

Which is better the boxes or $36.50 seats?

The boxes are terrible- you can't see half the stage. However, when I was there, the mezz was so empty, everyone in the boxes moved up to 1st or 2nd row of the mezz before the show, which were awesome seats. So, try for the $26 seats and anticipate moving.
