What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block

He is a great Sweeney. I actually prefer Hearn over the guy in the original cast (I know, Blasphemy).

As I posted in another thread - look up George Hearn on 'ibdb.com' (internet broadway database.) You'll discover he has a bit of a history, including being a two-time Tony winner.

I would have thought in January, which is when Mr. Grey extended his contract until. However, there seems to be some question as to whether Joel is even returning to the show because of his illness.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! say it isn't true! even with Joel Grey mailing it in every night, that badly written role is a waste of the man's talent. i consider Grey to be very close to retirement, at least from the strain of a Broadway schedule, and I see the Wizard as a nice easy role for an aging actor like Grey or Robert Morse to take and be beloved once more by nostalgic Broadway audiences. But George Hearn should still have much better things to do with his time. He's getting up there in years but he's still a powerhouse performer with stamina to spare. I've seen him live in Sweeney Todd and Candide recently and the man is as incredible as ever. I'm not trying to say that Hearn is too good for Wicked, just that he has so much more talent than the Wizard role will let him display. The man can sing, act, and dance the hell out of Sweeney, Albin in La Cage, and Max in Sunset Boulevard. To see him prancing about singing "Wonderful" is going to be like watching Rebecca Luker sing Castle on a Cloud.
sorry if i'm coming across badly. just understand that George is one of my personal idols and it's upsetting to see him going into a role and a show that I happen to believe are weak and questionable. this isn't a wicked bash, just an expression of my personal disappointment.

Broadway Matt - while I agree with you completely in spirit, the fact remains that, even while he may be capable of performing powerfully, he may not have anything offered to him. And at least this way, he gets a steady gig until something opens up.

I didn't see Joel - just heard him on the OBC recording - we saw Sean, and it seemed he made more of what was there, however limited it might be.

it was the first comparable thing that came to mind. the thought of Hearn performing the Wizard's "songs" also conjures up such comparable scenarios as Placido Domingo singing "Round Shouldered Man" or Jennifer Holliday walking into an audition and singing "Goodship Lollipop" complete with Shirley Temple dance steps. I'm sorry, you don't hire a heart surgeon to remove a hangnail.
