Can I reasonably make it from the Winter Garden theatre (seeing SOR) to the Public theatre downtown on Lafayette street in 15 to 20 minutes?
School of Rock is supposed to end at 8:15pm (I have aisle seat) and Joan of Arc into the fire starts at 8:30pm (i won the today's Tix lottery)
What's my best bet? Subway? Cab?
I will leave the second SOR ends and Rush out. Doable?

It's doable. Take the R or W from 49th street and get off at 8th. It's a three minute walk from that stop. Should take under 20 minutes provided the trains are in your favor.

You won't make it. Normally you could walk to 53rd and 7th and take the D down, then walk over. But the walking is where you will lose time, plus waiting for a train. Your only chance is a taxi, but that is also cutting it close.

The D isn't helpful in this situation, as Broadway-Lafeyette's distance from the Public negates any reduced travel time from the train being express.
Google Maps puts the trip from the Winter Garden to the Public as taking 16 minutes if the NRW is used.

It will be tight. And stressful. Sounds like a great day!

It's technically doable--provided you dash out of the theater the minute the show ends (hope you have an aisle seat), and that a train is pulling up to the station as soon as you hit the subway (very questionable on a Sunday evening).

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give it a shot and hope they do late seating. My ticket to Joan of Arc was free anyways after a $20 today's tix credit. I'll double check the subway times during intermission and hope I get lucky.
I will report back on my day when I get home tonight.

It's definitely doable if luck is on your side. I'd listen to Kad and the R to 8th is probably the best. I had a similar issue when I was working at the Public. I was in rehearsal for a show at the Public and had won the lottery to Fun Hom at Circle in the Square and had 15 minutes to get from one to the other and made it with a minute I spare. However, I wouldn't have tried if I knew that days performance started at 7 and I would need to book it to make the show!

This. Everything's got to go perfectly. I normally stay for the curtain but I don't have to catch a train to another borough or see another show immediately after. Just this once, maybe consider leaving a little early. The train is your best bet (avoiding traffic) but with the way they've been delayed lately you want a bit of a cushion instead of planning for a perfect run.
I'd ask PThespian for some advice.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
PThespian - you're sure that the running time of School of Rock is 2 hours and 35 minutes? Can anyone else verify?
I'm going to do for it regardless. Busiest day in recent memory as I'm currently in my seat at Sunset Bouvelard. Then rush over 3 blocks to the Winter Garden, and fingers crossed and with a hopefully late curtain at the Public, I will be seeing Joan.
Can anyone comment on at what I should be looking out for during the ending of School of Rock to prepare for my exit? Does it end with the Rock Concert same as the movie?

PThespian is an usher at the Winter Garden. I'm sure he knows the running time better than anyone on this board.

Thanks PThespian! And thanks everyone! I guess i will wait till curtain call. Hopefully the show is running on time so I'm not too late for JOA.
At intermission for Sunset Bouvelard! A three show day. Hope I have the stamina to make it through.

When I went to Joan of Arc, they started about 6 minutes after 8:30 on the Sunday. Usually there is a tiny bit of leeway time since many shows never start on the dot.
Have fun with your three show day! I did a four show day once, made easier by the fact that all the shows were 90 minutes long, but it still involved a lot of committing.

I was at SoR last night and the show ended right around 8:30, highly doubt it was possible to get to the Public unless the OP left early.

This is a bigger cliffhanger than Amanda and Michael's Moldavian wedding massacre on Dynasty! (Yeah, yeah, I'm dating myself, but I know I'm not the only gay guy who remembers that.) LOL

Or when Fallon was abducted by the creature in the UFO. Those were the days of quality TV.

I've had issues with the D in the past but never this long.

Hey everyone! Sorry to keep you all in suspense, but no, unfortunately I did not make it. Thanks to the excellent advice from some members here - particularly telling me that the show is actually 2 hours and 35 minutes, not 2 hours and 15 minutes, it made it too difficult to get there. A couple of notes:
1. I was sitting front row so I would have felt like a major jerk taking off in the middle of the curtain call so I stayed right till the end of that.
2. I checked the subway times during intermission and there were a few delays which didn't help.
3. Although factoring in a late curtain at JOA (thanks for the tips on this fans), I figured getting there by 9:15pn wouldn't be worth it since the show is only 90 minutes.
4. I won the lottery and used my $20 credit so I wasn't out any money.
5. Hubby had a stomach ache and I would have felt bad leaving him on the last night of our trip.
6. The positives. I was able to see 9 shows in 6 days and my School of Rock rush tickets were amazing. Front row centre on the aisle. (I got in line at 8:30am, based on advice from another thread of mine) Didn't miss a single thing and even had a personal moment with Alex!
7. Sorry again to keep you all in suspense! I travelled home to Toronto last night and experienced delays all day and night and didn't get home till 3am! Also no free wifi at LaGuardia to update here. I'm just glad I made it home as a lot of flights to TO were cancelled and they were re-booking them for Thursday! (Sorry off topic rant)!
Thanks again everyone and I will post on some of my thoughts on my shows and rushing and lottery tickets shortly!
