Gareth Gates of Pop Idol fame is in the final stages of drumming out a six month contact to play Joseph at the Adelphi when Lee Mead ends his 18 month run in January. Gareth makes his stage debut next week in 'Cinderella' in Wimbledon. The negotiations are on hold for 2 to 3 weeks to see how his debut works out. I cant see much difference between doing panto twice a day and doing Joseph but I guess the producers are just be cautious for now. I think he will be perfect for the show and will bring in the punters by the 1000's. Lee Mead leaves on Jan 10th. 'Cinderella' closes Jan 18th so its expected he will step in the first week of Feb.
God this feels like its been going on forever, I can see why they are being cautious, but its certainly late to try and generate sales for the new year. Should help pull in the crowds, but having seen him at Stiles and Drewe concert in July I have my doubts about his vocal ability. Also cant say idea of him in a loin cloth excites me
And whilst we're on the subject of Pop Idol, Will Young is supposed to be on Question Time sometime soon. I know Adam Ricketts has done it - maybe we will one day see Adam and Will teaming up in numbers 10 and 11 Downing Street.
Im getting flasbacks to when Ian 'H' Watkins/ Stven Gately played Joseph...lets get in as many boyband/pop group/faield "muscians" in as possible to make lots of money, and we won't worry about how rubbish they are, because the shows rubbish too.
Any reason for Sir Lloyd Webber to get young men into a loin cloth eh!?
Gareth did Friday's show and today's shows before his official opening on Monday. I'm just back from the evening show, and, say what you like, I thought he was fantastic!! :P I've not seen him do anything before, but I really thought he was great! Give him a while to settle in and he'll be fabulous =)
