@ bestie: My guess is she was giddy and giggly because she was tipsy on the champagne. Check out towards the end how she goes in the opposite direction of Mamita and Gaston and bumps into him and then giggles some more.
The champagne went to her head...
She seemed giggly through the whole thing (one note). Maybe she needed more of a "before" and "after" the champagne. I remember Leslie Caron hiding her champagne (and her tipsiness) from both Gaston and Mamita throughout the number in the film.
I just felt like they were presenting a number here, rather than acting a scene from a story.
It didn't feel in context that much at all.

Probably because it was a morning television show broadcast... There is zero context for any musical performance.
Maybe they can't act in the morning. Maybe it's in their contracts.
Is this the time I must confess I never saw High School Musical and had no idea who this Vanessa is, but that is one of the most exciting production numbers ever? She just oozes charm and energy. Love it. Can't wait to see this.
Oh, by the way, when I go to see Gigi on Broadway, I suspect I'll be looking for charming and exciting musical numbers and not stressing out over a girl's believably hiding her "bubbly drunkenness" from the adults who actually wouldn't be bothered by it in the least in this scene. Or
were you expecting Anna Karenina instead of Gigi, best12bars?
Good, you keep your kick lines and leaps, and I"ll keep my stories as the most important thing in musical theatre.
You clearly have no clue about the story of Gigi or what is going on in this scene (or should be going on) or who these characters are. But as long as they smile big and ooze and kick high, you're cool.
Glad to hear you're so easily entertained. Enjoy the show!
Cool it, Colette.
They were on a TV show. Their job is to make it look as fun as possible. I can't say for sure, but it is possible that the number will progress more when actually in the theatre.
Yeah, that wasn't the entire number. That performance only showed the beginning and end of it.

I was a little worried about Vanessa's singing, but she really made me stoked to buy the album when it's released.
I love the changes in the orchestrations, and adored 'Parisians' even though it was only briefly shown.
I really enjoyed seeing how enthusiastic she was - she really was Gigi.
I personally thought the performance was adorable, and all three leads sounded great. I've always found Vanessa charming, and I think this is a perfect role for her.
Vanessa did a wonderful job - I did not know that kind of voice was in her! Victoria being flawless as usual. <3
