What did everyone think of the performance this morning? Generally, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, considering this is one of my favorite musicals and I am a bit skeptical of the casting... (cough cough VANESSA cough cough) But overall, I enjoyed it. I did notice this seemed to be a pre-recorded track and they were just lip syncing? Or I could have just not had my coffee yet and am seeing things, LOL!
Anyway, let's discuss!
Orchestra was pre-recorded. Vocals were entirely 100% live.
I enjoyed it a lot. I think they did a nice job. A link for those who missed it:

Smaxie, thanks for the clarification. :) They sounded crazy clear and very good, with that being the case. And Cupid Boy, totally agree.
Vanessa has always been a solid performer. Not surprised she pulled it off.
EDITED. I'm bowing out of this discussion.

Auggie, as someone that grew up with the movie being a nostalgic classic shown to me by my grandparents, I guess I'm that only representation of a target audience. Unfortunately, since I don't have the income to support the show all by myself, I have no clue how this show is gonna make any bank. And if I had such income, Side Show would still be running right now LOL
I've heard that they've made many substantial changes to the script since DC. I'm eager to see what's been done.
Unsurprisingly, I thought the performance was great, but I already adored this production in DC.
Auggie27 has been on a one-man mission to tear down GIGI any opportunity he gets. It's just...lame and tiresome. WE GET IT ALREADY: YOU DON'T CARE FOR IT. WE GET IT, WE GET IT, WE. GET. IT.
YOU MAY STOP NOW.
The Night They Invented Champagne was clearly my favorite number when I saw the show in January in DC.

That was an exhilarating performance. I think it will sell tickets.

Wow! Thanks for the link! That was so joyful!
Broadway.com has "Champagne" and "The Parisians"

It was very fun and exuberant! Vanessa was so charming and I could tell she was having a blast throughout the whole thing which made me want to see the show. Might need to make room on my vacation list of shows...
It's really cool when you realize that ON THE TOWN and GIGI have something in common: same choreographer.
Joshua Bergasse is on a roll with these two shows this season.

That was amazing! Such a wonderful performance.
Okay, that's all I needed to get on board. I was one of those people who dismissed the revival when Hudgens' name was announced, and looking at that clip I can certainly see why she was cast in the role. I've never seen her be this natural, charming, and effortless. The choreography is excellent. Oh, and Victoria Clark looks like she is killing it, then again, when is she not? She also looks like a million bucks.
I'm really glad people are starting to embrace this show more as a result of this performance!
Ive been on the fence about this, and I love the film.
The performance sold me!
Hudgens dances surprisingly well, and sounds better than I expected, but something about her irritates me.
I was confused, because I only saw the truncated versions that were posted this morning, and I was wondering how that was enough content to judge. But I watched all of "The Night They Invented Champagne," and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it.
It's great that Hudgens is proving her self-worth for Broadway here. She's terrific! This made me interested in the show.
Did anyone notice that Vanessa and Cory bumped into each other towards the end? (Unless that was a part of the choreography?)

Yes I couldn't work out if they were 'drunk' or it was an accident. It affected her vocal a bit so I'm guessing it wasn't intentional
It's part of the choreography. There are two groups kicking in opposite directions (you can see the dancer behind Vanessa matching her). The Gigi-Gaston collision is deliberate.
