As I have posted before, I saw Miss Rogers in this London production of "Mame" in the late 1960's when I was stationed onboard a U.S. Navy ship in Scotland. What I remember in particular was that from our seats, we could see how muscular her legs were. I kept the programme from that evening. A couple of years before her passing in the early 1990's, she went on a book tour for her autobiography. I took the "Mame" programme with me, which she signed. It hangs framed above my desk.
Thanks for reviving some great memories for me.

I am always kind of amazed at the variety of roles Ginger Rogers played on stage throughout her career. My pre-conceived notion was that outside of her dancing skills, her singing abilities were small and that she had limited range as an actress. I'm probably incorrect. I wish more footage from her stage roles existed.

I watched her in the 1942 movie Roxie Hart earlier this year; I was used to her being stereotyped as a "good girl" and was surprised by how well she played the dark comedy and cynicism of the part. Of course since it was a Production Code movie it couldn't get as dark or edgy as previous or future versions of Chicago, but on its own level it's really fun and she was excellent in it.
