"You mean Lea Michele ISN'T playing herself!?"

If she is, then the show is in trouble...

Why do I feel a whole new wave of Lea hating will take place. Who did this girl piss off? I think she's fantastic. I think her character is a take on Reese Witherspoon's Tracy Flick from Election. I hope the show does well. Why is everyone bringing bad karma by hoping it tanks or predicting it will?

I actually thought Lea was wonderful, as I posted in my other thread where I detail my full comments on the pilot. The show is impeccably cast, with very lovable characters. It's just the writing that isn't particularly skillful.

And Jennafan, you missed the "when I did the search to look for it" in my sentence.

Lea gets a lot of flak because she has often been less than stellar as a person. Many find her to be quite a bit#h and two faced. Others don't like her acting.

1. NO way she looks like a sophomore in hs. She sounds wonderful, but her acting is not great.

2. The whole show is one big stereotype after another, the characters, the situation, even the theme: be who you are!

3. And the writing was horrific.

And before anyone jumps on me: I said origianlly I thought it sounded stupid but would be willing to give it a try. After seeing the trailer, I said it looked pretty funny and definitely better that I assumed. Watching it: I was bored and found myself rolling my eyes constantly.

I am shocked at the good press this is receiving, but I will stand by MY origianl statement: I don't think it will find enough of an audience to be a long term success. The word is that 13 episodes have already been ordered, we'll see how far it goes.

Well, the trailer looks pretty darn good. The cast looks great. I mean, legit Broadway stars (Lea Michelle, Matthew Morrison), the ever-funny Jane Lynch. Yes, we've seen this story before: awkward kids who get the chance to SING! But I think it looks very upbeat and positive, and it's not about young people with trust funds, attitude, and who mess around with sex and drugs. Good clean fun... show tunes will save the world!

Im fascinated by these stereotypes on the show. Ryan Murphy had a similar process with Popular. The show started off as an ernest high school drama and quickly became a self mocking parody of high school drama, embracing the stereotypes while mimicking them. Maybe Murphy will go the same route with Glee. From the trailers, it looks like he's already heading in that direction. I listened to the songs, though. If nothing else good comes from this, at least we have kick-ass renditions of "Rehab" and "Don't Stop Believin'"
