#1Going to NYC in March...question about where I'm sitting!
Posted: 12/16/06 at 4:19pm

Hey guys!
I'll be traveling to NYC in March with 2 of my friends, and I just purchased our tickets to WICKED and HAIRSPRAY. Since you guys know these theatres much better than I do, I just wanted to know how my seats were. Here's the info.

WICKED
Mid-Mezzanine
Row F
Seats 31, 33, & 35

HAIRSPRAY
Orchestra
Row C
Seats 10, 12, & 14

Thanks for your help!

Your hairspray seats are great, and the Wicked ones are good because it's okay to be farther back with that show.

HAIRSPRAY -- a little too close and too far over to the right, but not bad.

WICKED -- the Gershwin Theatre is the largest theatre on Broadway and even the first row Mezzanine is FAAAAAAAARRrrrrr from the stage. I have friends who sat in Front Mezzanine Center, Row C, and they left at intermission because they were soooo far away it bugged them, plus the sound was terrible from there, also.

I was in 2nd row of the mezz at the Gershwin. BrodyFosse is right about it being a big theatre and kinda far, but I didn't have a big problem with the sound. And DG looked really cool from that angle.

My friend and I won and auction to go backstage, have a tour and watch them do the green makeup.

Pab,
I've seen the seating charts. But I don't know the theatres well. Hence why I was asking. But thanks anyways!

MissElphie, I am so jealous! But congratulations! Shoshana is an incredible talent, in my opinion.

I saw Wicked in July and sat in the 4th row of the mezzanine. It was kinda neat to be able to see everything at that angle, but we were really far away. If given the chance again, I would not sit there.

Enjoy the shows! And while you're here, see SPRING AWAKENING! Sit on the stage. The tickets are only $31.25 each and it will be your theater experience of the year! You also might want to check out the brilliance that is GREY GARDENS if you have the time as well. re: Going to NYC in March...question about where I'm sitting!

I sat in the mezz for Wicked last time I saw the show--2nd row DEAD center--and it was horrible. It really is too far away. The set goes on for MILES and if you're as familiar with the show as I am, it's very easy to get distracted and not be able to pay attention to the show, but instead you keep looking at the set.

Ah, now I'm a little worried about my Wicked seats. And they weren't cheap either! Eh...
Parks, is it worse than sitting in the balcony at the Dallas Music Hall? Those of you who live in Dallas know what I'm talking about.

Wanna Be A Foster--I am DEFINITELY going to be checking out Grey Gardens for sure. We just wanted to secure 2 show tickets, and the rest we will be doing TKTS. We're poor students re: Going to NYC in March...question about where I'm sitting! But thanks for the Spring Awakening suggestion! I will definitely look into it!

haha, thanks Zeitoujo. I've seen Hairspray before and was 2nd row and LOVED being that close, so I don't think closeness is an issue for me.

I sat back row at Wicked in the mezz, and it wasn't that bad. I have good eyes, so that helped.

willact: have you seen Wicked before? Cause they aren't bad if you have already seen it and know it a bit. They just aren't the greatest for the first time...

I saw Wicked from the 3rd to last row of the orchestra (all the way left, seat #35) and I liked it way better than when I sat in the 6th row orchestra center.

You guys think the Gershwin is big...you should come out to LA and see the Pantages and Ahmanson, the Gershwin seems like a closet compared to it.

Your wicked tickets are FAAAAARRRRRR. You will see everything but they will be tiny tiny tiny. I have sat at front mezz (CC) before and the actors looked like ants.

Your hairspray tickets sound great.

MissElphie, I have seen Wicked before, but this will be the first time my two friends have seen the show. Granted, they know the music front and back, but it will be their first actual time seeing it.

I saw Wicked in the 15 (approx) row, and later on saw it in Row K of the REAR Mezzanine...I actually liked it better from up there, which is even farther away than you will be.

They won't look like ants...believe me...but if you don't have incredible eyes, brings glasses for some form of clarity.

SimpleJoys, a lot of tour theatres are bigger than Broadway ones.

I recently saw the Aida tour and sat in the front row center mezz. It was as far away as the last mezzanine row at the Imperial on Broadway.
