saw after the fall's final show. after words there were only a few people at the stagedoor. the cast was really nice, espically peter krause. he stayed for a while talking to everyone, about where they were from ect. he signed autographs for everyone. 2 bad he cant spell or his personalized autographs would be cooler...

Adam story for Emcee (p.s. thanks again for the rent script)

I was waiting by the stagedoor for Aida before the show a few weeks before the last show. everyone was in but deborah....two minutes after the stagedoor guy told me that, adam came out and walked for coffee. he signed stuff and chose to go out a different exit after the show. ha!

Yay for Adam stories. You've all seen mine ad nauseum, so I'll just be excited for yours. And yeah... he's elusive. He tended to sneak out afterwards. Good Stagedoor experiences?

Two experiences:

1) Meeting Hugh Jackman on the third-to-last show of THE BOY FROM OZ. Got his autograph, he shook my hand, and after I told him it was my birthday, he asked me how old I was and said happy birthday to me. Then after the show as I was standing outside the Imperial around 6, Stephanie Block walked right by me on the street. I turned and yelled after her, and we talked for a few minutes, got her autograph and a picture with her. She's so nice!

2) Everytime I'm in New York with my friend, we see Gary Beach-- my friend was his understudy on the ANNIE tour. Gary is real nice.

And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

I have to say HUGH JACKMAN... He was soooo gracious at the stage door.... My friend and I waited for about an hour before the show was over with all the others.. We even made signs to get his attention.. When he came over he read them and thought they were cute.. One said "Hugh Crazy" and the other said "Quiet Please There's a Hottie on Stage".. (If you've seen the show or know the songs, you'll get it) He signed our signs we made and also our playbills.. (what a funky signature he has) Then he gave us a kiss on the cheek... Such a loverly man...Truly adores his fans and is very very nice...What a hunk too!!!

I also meet John Cullum here in my city when he was doing a play...I snuck into the green room and got my Urinetown playbill signed along with the playbill for the local play he was doing... I also got to say hello to his son JD... Both very nice people... Updated On: 11/4/04 at 05:50 PM

Urinetown was definitely my best stage-door experience. The entire cast was unbelieveably sweet; they all hung around and talked for a while because there were only a few of us waiting, and I can't say enough how great they were.
Matthew Broderick was really nice as well, and Roger Bart.
Kristin Chenoweth is the last one that sticks out in my mind. She is so sweet! She listened to me ramble on and kept saying how grateful she was for her awesome fans. I absolutely loved meeting her.

My best would definitely have to be with Susan Egan - I had told her about an e-mail I wrote to her and she was soo genuinely excited that it was me, she gave me a huge hug and everything (got an awesome pic of that thanks to my mom) and stood around chatting with us for a while, and told us to make sure to keep in touch! I adore her.

Sadly, I haven't had too many stagedoor experiences because i've only been to NYC twice in the past couple years.
Not to brag or anything, but the first time I was there, it was because I had won a RENT contest and I actually got to SING for the casting director of RENT (Victoria Petabone) and I also got to go backstage and meet EVERYONE in the cast, it was so cool!! Everyone was soso nice, and Angel (I think Enrico was on? it was a couple years back) talked to us for about a half hour and he said that I should be Mimi! (i'm Hispanic, and i'm short with dark curly hair, so i guess I fit the Mimi-look)and Karmine also commented on mny "Mimi hair!" lol

The last time I was in NYC, I didn't get to go backstage, but I met Jeremy and Sebastian, and they were both super nice!! The next night I saw AIDA, and Deborah Cox was amazingly wonderful and kind! Also, Lisa Bresica (sp?) was so sweet and gave me a BIG hug!! I also saw Movin' Out, and everyone in that cast was nice. Since Movin' Out got out early, and The Boy from Oz was right next door, my friend and I decided to wait for Hugh Jackman. As soon as the show ended, I RAN in the theatre and grabbed some playbills, and only 15 minutes later, Hugh came out! I swooned and got a GREAT picture of him =)

I tried to get tickets to Wicked, but lost the lottory 3 times. I had the brilliant idea of trying to sneak into the lobby, but as I was going upstairs I hear a cold voice as, "can I help you?" I froze and muttered something about wanting to buy Idinas cd in the lobby. It was right before intermission, so she has to call the House Manager before she let me up. I heart Idina belt out the last thrilling notes of Defying Gravity, and was allowed to go up to the lobby. I bought Here, and started asking people if I could have their playbill because I REALLY wanted to wait for Idina. A rude girl said no, but a nice couple finally gave me theirs and I went back to my hotel until the show was over. Then I went back and waited a half hour and NOBODY came out of the stage door except Idina!!! She was very tired and seemed shy, so I didn't bother her by talking too much. But I got my autograph! =) (I hope that didn't sound too much like a crazy stalker story?? LOL I love Idina though)

WOW sorry this is so long!! But NOBODY in my family loves theatre and nobody else cares about these stories I have!

I just recently saw a non-equity tour of Oklahoma a couple months ago, and when I was walking towards the stage door, one of the chorus members looked me straight in the eye and smiled as I walked by.....I think we had a moment!

I've had great stagedoor experiences too. Antonio Bandares and Hugh Jackman were really nice. Linda Eder talked to me for a while once. But the best ones are of course with Stokes. I've met him about five times. The last time I met him I happen to get to the Man of La Mancha theatre the same time he was coming. I went up to him and siad "hi Stokes" and he goes "do I know you?" I was flabbergasted! Even though I love him so, I'm pretty calm around him. My mom, her friend and I got to talk to him for a couple of minutes and he was so sweet. He makes eye contact and listens to you.

My Adam Pascal story is cool too. It was after Aida this past June and me and my cousin waited for him after. He came out and there was a lot of people waiting for him. He signed our playbills and I just hugged him. It was a reaction and I felt dumb but he was sweet. Then I ran down the street and bought a disposable camera and after the people began to leave I went up to him again and asked for his picture. I told him I wouldn't take one if I was bothering him and he told me I wasn't bothering and preceded to put him arm around me for a picture. He holds on tight too! I thanked him and that was that!

The best stagedoor experience I have had was last week at Little Women. I posted this then, but I will summarize. After the show, there were maybe 20 or so poeple waiting for people to come out. The actors/actresses playing Mr. Brook, Amy, Beth, Laurie, Aunt March, and Prof. Bhaer all came out and were extremely nice and chatted with all of us. Then Sutton Foster came out apologizing for keeping everyone waiting (we had only been waiting 20 minutes tops). She signed for everyone and was soooo nice. My sister and I asked for a picture, but we had some camera difficulties. While we were working it out, she signed for other people and then came back for the picture. It still wouldn't work and we actually tried to take the picture about 5 times before it actually worked, but she kept coming back to take the picture with us. We also chatted a bit while we were waiting for the camera to work. When we were taking the picture that actually worked she kept going "Alright, its gonna work, its gonna be great!'" And when it worked we all chhered. Thenn she looked at me and said, "I probably look like thi: (insert funny face)." She was just so nice and friendly and jokey. It was a great night.

I also had good experiences at Wicked. Everyone who came out was very nice (yes, even Idina!) and friendly.

Yesterday was my first stagedoor experience, after seeing Wicked, and I met Joey (autograph and pic!), JLT (autograph, pic, and CHAT!), Idina (autograph and short chat!). It was incredible! Definitely a highlight of my Broadway-seeing-experiences! I was just wishing that all of a sudden Bernadette Peters would show up and Madonna would be behind me... then I would be completely awed and wowed out.

I saw Avenue Q over the summer and went to the stagedoor afterwards...My mom's shoe got stuck in the subway grate and Stephanie D'Abruzzo got down and yanked it out for my mom.

My friends and I saw Dracula over the summer too...but after we went to that stagedoor we walked down the street past the Producers theater...we decided to stay and wait for Hunter. My friend Mike went into the theater to get programs. He told the guy he accidentally left his in the theater. We got random stuff signed. After we left, we ran back because I remembered I had a camera...Hunter was a little weirded out. I think he thinks we were stalking him(we had gone to the little shop theater and took door posters...it was the week or so after LSOH had closed and they were striking stuff...so we had those with us too...)

Hmmm...stagedoor experiences that end with a backstage tour of the show are always my favorite! :) And I have to say that the cast of POTO are uber nice!

Reading all these exciting stage door stories makes me realize I am fortunate to have MANY great experiences, both backstage and outside many Broadway stage doors.

Let's just say that it brings back many treasured memories (in no particular order, and throughout the course of many years!) of "Phantom"; "Stones in His Pockets"; "Jelly's Last Jam"; "The Life"; "Will Rogers Follies"; "American Buffalo"; "Burn This"; "Kiss of the Spider Woman"; "Getting Married"; "Grand Hotel"; "Deathtrap"; "Someone To Watch Over Me"; "Broken Glass"; "Falsettos"; "Sideman"; "School for Scandal"; "Kiss Me, Kate"; "Fool Moon"; "Dame Edna"; "Private Lives"; "M. Butterfly"; "Translations" "Oh, Kay"; "Cats"; "Ragtime"; "Waiting in the Wings" (geez... I feel old now!).

Since this thread's been revived, I'll share some of my stage-door stories, too.

I've stage-doored at RENT three times, & every single time, everyone I've met (with the exception of two who will remain nameless) has been ridiculously nice, & I've always been impressed with that. One incident, however, sticks out in my head. I saw the show for my first time last November (just over a year ago), & Colin Hanlon was playing Mark, & he just blew me away. I had really wanted to meet him, but when he came out, he met up with a group of friends, & I thought it would be better to just leave him alone in that case. He walked past my friends & I, & then he turned around & came back to talk to us, & he hung around for a good 5, 10 minutes, talking to us & signing stuff. I got my picture taken with him before he left, too. I just thought it was so cool of him to take the time away from hanging out with his friends to stop & talk to me & my friends.

I met him again back in September, but my camera died when I tried to get a picture. I must have looked really disappointed, because he turned around before he left & gave me a hug & told me we'd get it next time. I feel like I was a little...hrrmm...immature, perhaps, about the camera thing, but I got a pity hug out of it, so I don't worry about it too much. *laugh*
