"Haha, guess it's the Soul Patrollers who will now join for the sole purpose of defending Taylor."
Welcome to my world.

Posted: 6/9/08 at 8:25pmI love that they mention how he brings joy to so many people and at the stage he's just so nice and gracious. Well a lot of other people on Broadway are too. It's not a new trend he's setting or anything....

"is making his debut tonight in a hit show."
So, he's not in Grease anymore?

Pardon me? Am I not allowed an opinion with being labeled something? We all have a right to an opinion, and I happen to really like Taylor's music and from what I've heard about his Grease premier, it was absolutely brilliant! For such a small part, his publicity is HUGE! In fact, this 5 min performance got him a solo in the curtain call! hahaha!! Now, that's STAH power!
And antiandrewx, Taylor doesn't need defending. The talent will speak for itself.

"For such a small part, his publicity is HUGE!"
Because he was on a popular TV reality show. He could play a random ensemble member and still get the same publicity.
As to whether or not Hicks belongs on Broadway, I'm indifferent...don't really care. Haven't seen him in the show yet, but probably won't be catching this production of Grease.

Just funny, massive, how you could be so upset when Clay was criticized, but now you jump on the bandwagon to put Taylor down. "Bully for you."

You can say it wasn't pitch perfect until you're blue in the face - it doesn't change the fact that is was perfect. You seem like you're not a Hicks fan - why to you follow him around the internet and make yourself look like an ass?
Check out the song at this blog:
www.soulthing.blogspot.com and leave a message over there. I'm sure all the Taylor fans would love to hear from a fellow fan

Posted: 6/10/08 at 12:24amIt wasn't perfect all the way through, but it wasn't off-key. It also wasn't very 50's in flavor. And the orchestra was playing it very fast, which could account for his sounding like he couldn't get enough breath to get every note pitch-perfect, like he probably could have. I wonder why the conductor chose to do that. If anything you'd think they'd want to give him as much time as possible to milk the crowd. Also, as the run goes on and he gets comfortable, his performance will just improve. Good for him.

As an ex-Taylor Hicks die hard fan, let me just share that not all of his fans are nuts. His after-AI fans fall into four major categories:
80% - Left and became obsessed with something else
10% - Are these crazy bitches you all are talking about, who I agree need mental help
5% - Are even scarier than that, and are listed on a "Keep Away From" list that each of Taylor's bodyguards has
5% - Other
Personally, I think that Taylor is not a perfect fit for the role, but does do his job to the best of his ability. I also agree that it is rather annoying that all these AI contestants are taking jobs away for people who have been vying for them for years. JMO.

Hey, life ain't fair. Taylor was hired because the producers knew he will get people to buy tickets. Period. No one cares about 'people who have been vying for these roles for years.' Taylor was out on that trail himself for 10 years and he deserves EVERY ACCOLADE coming his way for this role. It won't please everyone, and not everyone needs to 'be impressed'. Judging from the fans waiting outside in pooring rain last night for him, I think it's safe to assume there are enough 'impressed' folks who will buy tickets because they want to see Taylor in this musical. Period.
