Hey All,
Just saw Jinkx Monsoon in THE VAUDEVILLIANS.....incredible experience!!
Seeing PIPPIN this afternoon, but want to know if there were any suggestions for places to grab lunch prior to the performance.
Regards,
Windy
5 Napkin Burgers is a fave of mine.
as is Marseilles if you like French
both on 9th
Youll prob need ressies for both
I always recommend Trattoria Trecolori, on W47th between 8th & Broadway. Excellent, affordable Italian food.
I've walked into 5 Napkin in on weeknights and never had to wait more than 20 minutes. Afternoon today is probably fine.
I would agree normally Lizzie, but not on Matinee day.

Marseille (44th & 9th) is excellent!
WindyCityActor - I love the corgi! I have one too!
OK, fine, I've never tried on a matinee day.
Also, what's with people who can't spell my handle right when it's right there?
Im so sorry!! Youre right, i have corrected it.
If it's just you (or you plus one), you can also always sit at the bar in 5 Napkin.
I also like Zigolini's on 9th between 46th and 47th; the pizza is good (not outstanding but not terrible), but the meatballs are amazing.
If you like Thai or Asian food, Saigon 48 has very affordable prices, conveniently right outside Times Square on 48th, off of Broadway.
Any good Sushi in Times Square, where you cann just pull your food off the belt?
When I eat in the theater district on matinee day (or even before an evening performance), I like to stay as close as possible. Even getting two or three blocks to your theater right before the show can be torture and nerve-racking. Who wants to fight the crowds? So if I were going to see Pippin, I would eat at Junior's, right across the street from the Music Box. It's just lunch, anyway!
And Windy, I have tickets for The Vaudevillians, and I'm very excited! I'm glad the show extended.

Kodama sushi at 8th and 45th street is really good.
You can't go wrong with Junior's right there on Shubert Alley. Great food, and a perfect location.
Since a large majority of Times Square is pedestrian friendly now, there's plenty of space to walk & people watch in. Sure, it can get crowded as an earlier poster mentioned. Just plan accordingly.

Haru Sushi at 43rd and Broadway.
My personal favorite is Chelsea Grill on 9th Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets.
How about the Cosmic Diner at 8th Avenue and 52nd? It's open all day long.

I second Kodama for sushi.
I also enjoy John's Pizzeria on 44th and 8th (right next to the St. James). Haven't been there in a while, but I know it can get pretty crowded, especially during the prime pre-show lunch/dinner time.
So glad you liked The Vaudevillians! Jinx and Major Scales are just terrific. Now that it has extended more people can see it. I might even go again.
It's probably too late to chime in since you've eaten already, but maybe others can benefit from this:
I also heartily recommend Marseille. Had good experiences at Angus McIndoe, Don Giovanni (good pizza), The R Lounge in the Renaissance hotel in Times Square is good for a quick bite too.
Tout Va Bien is a sentimental favorite I used to go when I was in high school and we came to New York from Massachusetts by bus. But a couple years ago I went again and the food wasn't so hot (great frites though).
Vice Versa is my all-time favorite theater district spot.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Edison. Have there been some bad experiences there lately? I've always loved it. For future reference, it's the coffee shop in the Edison Hotel on 47th (right across from the Barrymore) and has a lot of theatrical "history." It's very inexpensive (I mean, for NYC) and I have always been happy with the soups, blintzes, sandwiches and cheesecake. What I really like about it is that it isn't as crammed full of people and noise as are most of the other places to eat in the area.
+1 Emmaloucbway for John's Pizzeria. Interesting space (used to be a synagogue) and good pizza. Plenty of tables so shouldn't be too bad of a wait, especially for lunch.
I also heartily recommend Marseille. Had good experiences at Angus McIndoe
Marseille is delicious, as is Nizza, which is just a few steps away (right next to 5 Napkin Burger). I'd caution against Angus. The food has never been the star there--it was always a people-watching joint, but as of late it's become more of a tourist trap/bridge and tunnel hangout than anything.
My personal recommendation: Zuni on 43rd and 9th.
Karen, I haven't been to The Edison a/k/a The Polish Tearoom, in years, but I walked by it the other day looking at the great art deco work in the hotel lobby, so glad to hear the food is good. I'd definitely give it a shot. Thanks for the reminder.
AC, that's too bad about Angus, I liked it.
I love 5 Napkin Burger. Eatery is also good
