Watching Graham Norton on BBC America is always a treat but tonight, Miriam Margoyles was hysterical..she is straight up crazy - errr, and who knew - not that straight up?
Would love to see her with Richard Griffiths on stage -- that would be highly entertaining and an event
If youre looking for a good laugh, set your DVRs to BBC America for Graham Norotn (and who knew he was up for Stanley Tucci's role in Devil Wears Prada?)
Oh my god...she's FILTHY!
(And fabulous.)
LOVE the both of 'em so I can't wait to see this.
It was great. She is one of the best to be interviewed. I believe she has been on Graham Norton show several times.
We had several mutual friends about a decade ago. Miriam was always that way! Hilarious, open, candid, and kinda crazy in a delightful way.
You can also watch it in 4 sections on Youtube if you want and don't have BBC America.

it was sooo funny - anyone know if she is planning on being one stage anytime soon?
me as well - and i do recall her on an earlier episode of Graham's show....that was genius tho - great episode - and love that we are getting the shows SO close to after they initally air in the UK
The wig thing was pretty funny. She was hysterical. Especially the story near the end.
"anyone know if she is planning on being one stage anytime soon?"
She's just finished playing the Duchess in a regional production of Me and My Girl that may go into the West End later in the year.
I saw her in that and although she's a fine comic actress she's not a singer. She made a speech in time to the music during the Song of Hareford and swayed around a bit and smiled widely during the dance routines.
That's what she was like in Wicked, but her acting was truly creepy in the second act.
She was back Graham's show again this week, luring Will.i.am into a false sense of security with her dear, sweet, little-old-lady act. He wised up enough to try and get the better of her by the end of the show.

I was at the taping of last week's show, and will.i.am was fully on board with her. He loved her. The editing just made it seem like he was being contrary, but most of the time he absolutely loved it. Also, Miriam's amazing dirty story at the end was cut in half -- there was another man afterwards in the same place. Oh my.
You can post it all here!
I wonder if she invents those stories - a guy up a tree masturbating in the centre of Edinburgh?!
I loved the way Will referred to her as a "drunk old lady" when he went in the red chair.
Joey-she was a scary Morrible. She really was incredible in the role and remains one of my favorites. (I liked Carole Shelley a great deal and Rondi Reed as well.)
She is also going to be touring the states in Dickens' Women. And if you saw Graham Norton there is also a joke about that. :)

She did a monologue from Dickens' Women on the show and it was so freaking impressive, wasn't it? I would love to see her show.
So the part of the story that was cut, was, well, pretty much that after she began 'helping out' the tree masturbator, they noticed another man was watching them! So of course she 'helped him out' too. And she said 'I stand by it; I believe it is the right thing to do.' She said a bit about how helping someone out sexually doesn't have to mean anything emotionally or sexually(and added "of course it didn't, I'm a lesbian!") and it's just the nice, right thing to do to help people with their needs. The noise the audience was making was the epitome of nervous gasping laughter. Just out of the park.
Also, 3 people told stories in the red chair, but they were all cut so they could air will.i.am's. One of the cut ones was necessary for the joke in will.i.am's - when he said "I live in LA" "What do you do there?" "I live there", that was funny bc that was the deadpan response of one woman to Graham's questioning. Sad that they cut that, it was so funny. Obviously doesn't hold a candle to anything Miriam said. They also cut a lottt of the time will.i.am took to answer a question. He's a very slow talker (let's call him thoughtful) so they definitely had to cut some of that air. Man it was such a good show!
Through a mutual friend, I've known Miriam off and on for more than 20 years.
As best12bars implied, she is every bit as much fun at a party!
For her sake, I'm glad she's reached a point where she's at ease with discussing her sexuality in public. It was an issue with which she struggled back when Ian McKellan and a lot of British celebrities were coming out; though AFAIK Miriam was never exactly "in" the closet in the first place, she stopped short of issuing press releases about it. Obviously, she's plenty comfortable now.
And what a career! She was in the original cast of Caryl Churchill's CLOUD 9 and practically everything else I've seen for 25 years!
