Whether or not you like "Grease" or you like the idea of the television show casting the leads, I don't see what the big deal here is. If you're not for it, don't go see it. Be glad that it's raking in money for the Broadway economy and hope that some of the people who can't get tickets to "Grease" might take a chance on "Company" that is playing right across the street or "Grey Gardens," which is playing one block away.
I think there's a major curiosity factor here. I, like many other people, have already seen way too many productions of Grease, but am interested by the show because it's unlike anything Broadway or reality TV has done before. If I like the people that end up winning, I will probably go.
If it brings people to Broadway, that's a good thing. Most people see more than one show when they come, and other things (even aside from the obvious traps like Mary Poppins or Beauty and the Beast) will reap a benefit.
One somewhat related show question, do you think they'll make the 2nd place person the standby?

I'll probably end up seeing it as well, but I'm not buying tickets to a show with no theatre. I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a show and end up with crappy seats.
The thing is, you do know where you're sitting.
I did a search for tickets, and I was given many ticket locations, down to an EXACT seat... a theatre has defintley been picked, and its probably for a show thats going to close, but they just don't want to announce it.
Since tickets are available through TICKETMASTER... its time to figure out which theatres sell through there... and what shows are gonna close or have open theatres.
It's going in the BROOKS ATKINSON.
I was just about to post that CPD. :-P I really hope that Constantine doesn't end up in the show. I heard that they're trying to find an African American Rizzo and Kenicke. I wonder if it'll come to fruition.
Cheers,
Christopher
Well we know it's a Nederlander theatre. Because Shuberts don't sell through TICKETMASTER.
And since it's been mentioned by many publications that it's almost absolutely going into the Brooks Atkinson...it's fairly obvious that's what the theatre will be.

I was really suprised when I read this! I knew ticket sales would go good but not this soon!
I think the popularity probably has to do with familiarity. People wanting a good first-time Broadway experience will often look for something familiar, something they've seen at the movies or on television, one of the things that makes Disney shows successful... people have an idea of what they are going to get for their money, which is quite a bit more than what they fork over for a movie...
It's like why people flood the chain restaurants and fast-foods, they know what to expect, even if it isn't gourmet.
Personally I like surprises when they turn out well, but I've been known to make comfort purchases too.
I say more power to 'em, especially if they get more people to take a taste of theatre.
That's quite an impressive number overall.

jimnysf, I appreciate your funny pic, but I hear that someone that you LOVE is a part of the show...a man, a blond man, who could probably win it.
He's someone who I like, too. I always seemed to be posting my comments about him after you.
I think next week's episode might be telling.

Mario Lopez is a blonde? Just kidding.
I thought these were all going to be "unknowns".

Ha, ha! I heard that NY auditions are full of ringers. RING-ers. Like, all have agents, credits, Equity cards, blah blah.
Lots of Hairspray alum.

I guess I am going to have to turn off the lights and hide out in my apartment and watch this TV show next week if that person is really going to be on it. I'm on the West Coast so I'll check the board here first to make sure. He would be the only reason I would watch it. Thanks for the heads up.
As the horsemen of the cultural apocalypse clop on...
There were Equity auditions. That's no secret.

OFF-TOPIC: Rath - I love your signature! That was hilarious.
ON TOPIC: So is it possible this could actually be a 3 to 4 year run?
